More expensively though is the valve stem seals ($$$ - like $3500), alternator housing bracket oil leaks, upper timing cover oil leaks, valve cover oil leaks.
Cooling systems @ ~100,000 miles. Standard M62/N62 stuff... rads, hoses, water pump, etc.
Then you have all the normal stuff like window regulators, trim that's missing/damaged, etc.
How do I know all this? I just bought an 05 4.4i Sport/Nav/Pano and it needed most of the above... minus the cooling system stuff. We bought ours with 109,000 miles on it in July for $10,000 and have spent a good $1500 on parts and I still need to buy the valve stem seal tool @ $750... Book on ours was like $15,000 so with doing all the work myself, but the time all is said and done we will be at or around that number including new wheels and tires.
These trucks like to dive into your wallet... big time. I still love driving it though... feels amazing. 4.6's are even nicer."A good memory for quotes combined with a poor memory for attribution can lead to a false sense of originality."

Unfortunately, the ad is gone, but someone in Ontario, Canada was offering a M3 Sport Evo, imported from Germany on kijiji. Forget the mileage, but whoever was selling wanted around $45K CDN. Crazy???Estoguy
