    Need Help Identifying Engine!

    Hi there everybody!

I need a little help with identifying an engine. I am about 1/3 of the way through an M30 swap into my 1988 325is. About a week ago, I pulled out the M20 & Trans and was prepping the M30 I bought at a local junkyard. I decided to double-check the VIN before I actually dropped it into my E30 to make sure that I had the correct M30 model (the M30B35). According to the VIN finder I used online, my M30 came from a 1987 535is. Now according to wikipedia, the 1987 535is is an E28 and it came with an m30b34. But my engine follows all the identifying features of an M30B35: the valve cover says "BMW", the intake manifold says "3.5". What are some other ways I can determine which engine I have?

Harmonic balancer will have many bumps (b35) or just one bump (B34).
