    Removing cams

How do you take the canes out of the these heads. The motor is blown apart. Bentley says you have to have some tools but doesn't say what kind.

you need to remove the rocker shafts so you can take the cam out... beyond that I don't think that there is anything special that you need, but it's been a while since I've taken these motors apart.

its a total b1tch any way you go about doing it. There is a special tool to remove just the cam (the one the bently is talking about) that "unloads" the rocker arms so you can pull the cam out. Its an interesting looking device that bolts onto the head. I couldn't get my hands on one and I don't have the welding skills to make one so I said fk it and "pushed" the rocker shafts out of the head so I could get the rocker arms off and take the cam out. it was very sketchy. I would highly recommend you get some sort of HD rocker and rocker locks. I went with IE HD rockers and IE rocker locks ($300). Schmiedmann also offers some shrick rockers. http://www.schmiedmann.com/5_series/...e9.htm#1942992

Heres the tool bently is talking about. http://www.mye28.com/viewtopic.php?t=84396 pic in thread.

      Good luck!
