    Current Engine Prices

For those of you who have done a recent swap, what kind of prices have been paying / seeing for 24v motors? M50, M52, S50, S52. If this can stay updated, we can gauge good and bad deals.

    I've seen a few S52s recently for between $1700-$1900 and M52s (B28s) for $600-$800. Located in Philadelphia

I've seen m52's in Atlanta for $450-800. I'm hoping to get one from someone there for $750 with all accessories this weekend which I think is a decent price.
There was a guy on here selling a s50 who was in south florida for like $4250 with tranny.

A good low mile S50 with trans should be $2000-2200 from what I have seen.

I was entertaining myself on buying an S50 with 150k here on r3v for $1700.. another was an S50+G260 on r3v/ebay for 4k dollhairs(still on auction), but I could not get myself to spend that amount :( I guess I am too cheap... Instead, I bought a whole car (96 328i/5speed) for $1100. The car was only supposed to be $1000, but I didn't want to drive it home, so I had the guy tow it to my house. The owner says that the clutch was out, but I feel like the car's slave needs bleeding or needs replacement.

Somebody local to me is selling their complete S52/ZF out of a 99 M3 for ~$2600. It has 160k with a headgasket no older than 5000 miles.

I paid $1000 for an S50/ZF missing a few accessories, but a fubar'd block and crank. Then put probably another $3000 into it to have it completely rebuilt, with a new block, s52 pistons, and s52 crank.

I've got a complete M52B28 with everything except AC compressor and bracket for 700 in dfw. No issues, all pita maintenance done already. Or for 1150 it will come with S52 cams installed

Just got my swap done a few months ago.
M50s tend to go for around $350-400 canadian up here, so that's pretty good right now in USD. I got mine (non vanos) delivered to my door for $350, 158,000km or 100k miles. M52's i was looking at back in the winter were around $450 with accessories

Paid 250$ for an NV m50, no pan, recent head work. Had a friend buy a few m52s with aluminum block for 400-600, and s52 for 500ish with exhaust, no trans I believe. They vary for whoever sells them, some people have no clue. Some want 2000$ for an m50 so....

                  Condition really effects value but usually s50/52 1000-2000, m52 400-800, m50 300-500, m54 400-1000

Then off course anymore, any of them can be scored in a junk yard for next to nothing.

I am kicking around the idea of a swap. I saw a '96 M3 with a manual transmission for 3K for the whole car. The downside is that it has 220K on it. From what I understand I would still need to buy an oil pan and some drive line stuff to make it work correct? This would be going in a '87 325iS.

Are these seriously the prices for these engines? I just bought a gs6-53BZ 6 speed transmission for my N54B30 swap for 650 bucks, and he would sell the full N54b30 with transmission, wiring, turbos for $3000.

For $3k, buy a whole car from a salvage auction. Prices for newer engines are rediculous..

That's not a bad deal. You could sell off a lot of the /M parts to make your money back or to put towards a rebuild. That diff alone is worth ~$400. You'll need the pan along with other parts. Drive line depends on what transmission you want to use. Check out the stickies.

Buying a car with the motor you want and then selling off what you don't need is most economical plan by far. Downside is not everyone has the space for a parts car.

Well yes that would be the preferred method I agree, but Over 25 states require a business license to do that, I think that is mostly the issue.

It seems a lot of folks are between the 2000-2600 mark, which isn't very far off at all. I sold my M30 swap for $2800, but I bought the full parts car for $2000.

The N54 I grabbed has 70k miles, and was so cheap I wouldn't expect people to believe me. Personally if I had the choice between paying 2300 for a s5x swap, and a more modern swap I may just reconsider for just another 700.

I just purchased a full M52b28 pulled out of a wrecked "98 328is for $1100. Expensive, but it did come with every accessory, a zf320, and a driveshaft. Personally, I thought that was a decent deal. Then I opted for a full top to bottom rebuild....no more monies lol
