      Basically anything attributed to Churchill.

A politician needs the ability to foretell what is going to happen tomorrow, next week, next month, and next year. And to have the ability afterwards to explain why it didn't happen.

Attitude is a little thing that makes a big difference.

Criticism may not be agreeable, but it is necessary. It fulfils the same function as pain in the human body. It calls attention to an unhealthy state of things.

He has all of the virtues I dislike and none of the vices I admire.

There are many, many others. Churchill was fantastic.

If the human race wishes to have a prolonged and indefinite period of material prosperity, they have only got to behave in a peaceful and helpful way toward one another.

Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy, its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery.

Some people regard private enterprise as a predatory tiger to be shot. Others look on it as a cow they can milk. Not enough people see it as a healthy horse, pulling a sturdy wagon.

Religion easily has the greatest bullshit story ever told. Think about it, religion has actually convinced people that there's an INVISIBLE MAN...LIVING IN THE SKY...who watches every thing you do, every minute of every day. And the invisible man has a list of things that he does not want you to do. And if you do any of these things, he has a special place full of fire and smoke and burning and torture and anguish where he will send to live and suffer and burn and choke and scream and cry for ever and ever 'til the end of time... But he loves you! AND HE NEEDS MONEY.

                      David Lange

The statement which has been made by the Leader of the Opposition was that the intelligence has stopped. I don't know whether that was a personal confession or whether it was a statement of position.
They couldn't, in the National Party, run a bath and if either the deputy leader or the leader tried to, Sir Robert would run away with the plug.
                      Death is very, very terminal.
If the American global strategy is dependent on the ability of nuclear ships to come to New Zealand, then God defend the world
                      And
And I make my case against nuclear weapons the more vigorously because I distinguish between them and all other forms of coercive or deterrent power. I’ve got no case to make against the policeman’s truncheon. And the people tonight who have argued that you must go to the ultimate in force every time you seek to embark upon it, is of course a surrender to the worst of morality.
An excerpt from the 1985 Oxford Union debate, arguing the proposition that “nuclear weapons are morally indefensible”.

For a nation to tax itself into prosperity is like a man standing in a bucket and trying to lift himself by the handle. - Winston Churchill

The quote I have tried to live my life by for the last 15 years or so not really political but
I am a great believer in luck, I find the harder I work the more I have of it. - Thomas Jefferson

As many of you know I am a bit fond of Jefferson so here are a few more of my favorites

I would rather be exposed to the inconveniences attending too much liberty than to those attending too small a degree of it. - Thomas Jefferson

The strongest reason for the people to retain the right to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against tyranny in government. -Thomas Jefferson

I think myself that we have more machinery of government than is necessary, too many parasites living on the labor of the industrious. -Thomas Jefferson

When the people fear their government, there is tyranny; when the government fears the people, there is liberty. - Thomas Jefferson

What country can preserve its liberties if its rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? - Thomas Jefferson

Were we directed from Washington when to sow and when to reap, we should soon want bread. - Thomas Jefferson

The natural progress of things is for liberty to yield and government to gain ground. - Thomas Jefferson

A free people [claim] their rights as derived from the laws of nature, and not as the gift of their chief magistrate. - Thomas Jefferson

The two enemies of the people are criminals and government, so let us tie the second down with the chains of the Constitution so the second will not become the legalized version of the first. - Thomas Jefferson

A wise and frugal government, which shall restrain men from injuring one another, which shall leave them otherwise free to regulate their own pursuits of industry and improvement, and shall not take from the mouth of labor and bread it has earned. This is the sum of good government. - Thomas Jefferson

And of course my Sig lines
