Just did today, we'll see how that works. I used the "original" rain-x in the yellow spray bottle.

Yeah, M6x is not too bad, just lots of parts I agree. There are a couple areas that just aren't fun, and requiring special tools for even flywheel is just a pita.

      driver side vanos

      installed the rear coolant pipe

      cam oil bars in place

      passenger side

      cam sensor wheel tool

Next weekend I'll install both oil pans, and timing covers/valve covers and weight it before adding accessories.

Made some progress today, I think I figured out what pushed the oil into the engine harness....it's the vanos solenoid so I am going to replace both sides.

Didn't install the alternator and clutch kit yet as I need new o-ring for the alternator and new bolts for the new clutch kit. I think I'll order new exhaust studs/nuts as well just in case.

Need new plugs as well, and coolant and oil/filter.

I got the timing covers, valve covers, intake manifold, water pump installed and cleaned up the oil pan. Going to order the last (hopefully) few parts and maybe next weekend or weekend after that it's going in the car.

Loving the progress man. Would you mind sharing info on roughly how much this is costing?

Sure, so far about 2k in parts (engine parts, new clutch kit, new engine/tranny mounts). Special tools were almost $400...for cam/vanos setup and special tool for flywheel bolts.

About $400 went to machine ship for head work.

Add another $300 for new vanos solenoids. Engine already had another $1k or so for new water pump/fan clutch/tstat/belts/external belt tentioners and alternator.

Things that were not touched, electronic throttle body with it's built in icv....ignition coils are original as well. Fuel injectors are getting rebuilt before I get them installed.

So I should set aside next weekend to stuff it all back in.

See if you can find a writeup for removing the front subframe and suspension in one unit.

Thanks for documenting--this runs in parallel with my future interests.

You should slap a non vanos IM on there while you're at it btdubs.

I made a thread about that (subframe removal) on bfc , ZERO usable info.

I'll ask one of the shop workers / dealer and see what they say.
