    Swapolocalpyse has begun.

149K '86 535i 5spd, with full and comprehensive records of all services. Rear ended and pushed into the car in front :(

Pristine interior, super clean inside and out before the crash. Unfortunately, currently the radiator is wrapped around the engine fan, so it does not start (although I am legally assured that it will). Clutch is two years old.

Going into a '87 325e with 140K on the clock.

Swap is scheduled for the last week of August. :drink:

Thread where I asked many many questions about this swap: http://r3vlimited.com/board/showthread.php?t=123097

The info will get updated and corrected as we plow through it.

              Get a yob, then.

I'm putting together a $$$ Pelican parts order. What all should be done while the motor is out?

              So far:

              intake manifold gaskets x6
              oil filter kit
              valve cover gasket
              exhaust manifold gasket x2
              water pump + gasket
              thermostat gaskets
              trans input seal
              trans output seal
              selector rod seal

              questionable:
              Thermostat?
              Thermostat housing?
              Belts?

              ----

              What sensors should I need?

              E30M3 trans mount will work?

E32 headers will mate to e30 325i downpipes?

                    Belts?
replace the thermostat, its fairly cheap. The housing will be fine, it's metal.
I would suggest replacing the accessory belts.

                    What sensors should I need?
e30 temp sensor (for the gauge)

                    E30M3 trans mount will work?
I believe so, depending on the transmission used.

E32 headers will mate to e30 325i downpipes?
                    no, they have different flanges.

Motor has low miles, doesn't leak out of rms. I don't want to take off the flywheel and timing cover :|

                      It's a Getrag 265, afaik.

Really? People have told me that it will work....

Depending on the availability of a good driveshaft shop (or your own fabrication skills) I would consider sourcing a g260. I'm currently in the process of trying to get my g265 to work and it's just not happening with any combination of stock parts that I have tried so far. I'm going to have to actually take the entire car up to a shop and have them fab something custom for me. If you use a g260 you can just use a 325e "big-guibo" driveshaft and be done with it. To the best of my knowledge the only thing the g265 has going for it is that it's slightly beefier and has a removable bellhousing. I just wanted to let you know because I kind of got blind-sided by the issues raised when trying to use a g265.

So the eta driveshaft won't work with a g265? :/

                            Is length the issue?

Yeah the eta driveshaft is too long by a couple of inches. A stock e28 driveshaft is also too long fyi. As far as I know there is no "bolt on" driveshaft solution when using the g265 but if someone has one I would love to hear about it.
