    Door Stuck Shut

So this seems like a good place for this.

I will update this as soon as I get all the information as to what happened.

My friend borrowed my 89ix and when I got it back the drivers side door was stuck shut.

What, if anything, can I do to get it open to start fixing whatever it is that broke (the locking mechanism I am assuming) - it is stuck shut and the door card is off.

Is it possible he double-locked it?

If the door panel is off did you try to pull the rod that connects the handle to the lock

No, that's the point of double locking.

Sounds to me like he used too much Loctite and it bled into the mechanism, seizing it up.

So if your car catches fire you dont want whoever is in there to get out.

at least there's a point to it :-)

If in the double lock position and the key will not turn lock, most likely you need to rebuild the cylinder or buy a new one coded for your car. To unlock, push down on the pull knob and lift up the door handle from the outside.

                      This might come in handy:

I could be wrong but it seems as though the locking mechanism is non-functional as I get no response from working the lock rod or the door-handle.

In my case, the locking actuator was seized, on both the passenger and the driver door at the same time... This prevented me from unlocking the car from the lock cylinder, locking knob, and even from the trunk.

I somehow got the driver's door to open with it being locked. I then removed the door card and removed the 2 screws that held the locking actuator in place. This allowed me to manually lock/unlock my doors until my replacement actuators came.

The two non-immolation reasons for it are to make it so only your key will open the car (only master keys can double lock) or if you discover someone trying to steal your car you can lock them inside until the authorities arrive. Option 2 probably doesn't end well for the car, but I guess that's what insurance is for? At any rate, it's designed to only unlock the car if a master key is used in the driver door cylinder.
