The OE sender is located on the oil filter housing/mounting, not on the head like an M30.
Hmmm. The s38b36 might have the sensor installed on the filter housing from the factory - I'll check real oem.

good drawing sowing the location on the head. #13, #14 - M30B34 head:

        e28 M5 oil filter housing: #13 is M12x1.5

I'm guessing that part is more than $200 - (cause real OEM says $160)

EDIT: HA! The part is $500 at the dealer. Remind me not to buy a motor sports engine till I win the lottery.

TRM sells this jobbie - not even sure that would fit.

I used something like what TRM is selling for my m20.
The side would of been good for a pressure sender, but just left it
                blocked off.

What did you ever decide as your solution?

I am eyeing up gauges and their senders as the motor is easy to get to on the hoist.

Most aftermarket senders have 2 terminals; 1 for oil pressure and 1 for your factory "idiot light". Just replace the factory sender with the aftermarket sender and wire it up. Done.

Does anyone have a really sweet oil pressure, oil temp setup?
I want both those things all in the same gauge.

Right into the block? Or remote?

On m30s it's in the back of the head, against the firewall. You'll need a threaded adapter as the head is M10x1.5 and most senders are 1/8NPT, but that's easy. See build thread in my sig (I put the oil temp gauge there and made a remote mount for the oil pressure, but since the senders are the same you can easily do it the other way around).

What is the oil's pressure operating range for the M30B35 ?

                              Cannot find definitive specs.

I used a combined VDO sender that looks like the one in George Graves pic and mine is mounted directly to the pressure switch boss by cylinder number six. The sender I used didn't require an adapter and screwed right in and it also can connect directly to the factory low pressure indicator wire for the cluster. I am no longer using the filter mounted senders. I get my oil temp from the oil pan drain plug area ( with the understanding that it might read a bit low). I think the pressure sender I used has M12x1.5 threads and the switch in it triggers at 8.5 psi but I will have to verify that.

My pressure is about 55- 60psi at full throttle or at highway speeds and can drop to about 15 or so at idle when hot. I have never had the oil pressure light come on or flicker even at idle when hot with synthetic 15/50.

The pressure sender I ended up using is VDO 360-007 and it was around $40.
