M20 Turbo. Which oil to use?

    Hey guys,

I'm trying to button up my turbo project and am trying to figure out which type of oil and coolant to use.

When I was N/A I was running synthetic 10w30 or 40 I believe...sorry shes been down for a bit. I know I should be running something thicker.

I have heard of people using 20W50 and 15W50

Was wondering what brands and if its synthetic or not.

Also, what type if any special coolants are guys running?

    Thanks,

I ran synth 20w50 in mine, same as bmw says in the manual but synthetic. If it gets cold syn 10w40 would be better.

I run Mobil 1 0w-40 in my 135i, they run hot as hell and that oil works great in it. Had an oil analysis done at 95000 miles with 3000-5000 oil changes and it came back perfect

I grabbed some 20w50 VR1 synthetic. Ill see how that goes. And I grabbed the peak global coolant since that popped up a few times during some research.

I personally use the normal one just because it is cheaper and I buy a case at a time, but 20w-50 VR1 FTW!!

Would that be negative for the engine since I have been running synthetic before hand. I thought switching to non synthetic after running syn for a while is a no no...

Bumping an old thread. Just ordered the VR1 20w50 synthetic for my turbo m20 build.

Any reason you guys run non synthetic in your boosted cars? And to the OP, how was the VR1 20w50 synth?
