    Mind the gap

I bought some NGK plugs for my m20 and they came gapped to .036. The Bentley manual says they should be .027. Do I change them to the Bentley specs or leave them since they aren't the OEM plugs?

I'd set them to what the manual says. The ignition system is designed to work with a certain gap size. Unless you have added more voltage capacity to the system (i.e. aftermarket coil, coil on plug...etc.) then it should be set as close to stock as possible.

Now, if you are tuning the car, there is some instances where playing with the gap can help, but that's a discussion for a later date.

gap them to the book, they aren't m20 only plugs, they probably "work" in a couple dozen different engines, if they had plugs that met each exact spec on each engine ever there would be thousands of different plugs instead of just hundreds for automobiles.
