    legality of no muffler?

so i figure its illegal to have no muffler, but i just wanna see what you guys have to say. i took mine off to fix it (was rattling like crazy because the internals are rusted apart) and the m20 sounds amazing without it on. is it ok to leave it off. i figure as long as i dont attract attention the fuzz will leave me alone.

also this way i can make a dual exhaust relatively easy and cheap.

had my muffler welded off and straight pipes welded on on my 91 automatic 325i. i loved the sound at first but it became really annoying, i dont think its annoying because it doesnt change pollution just affects sound, and in california all we have with mufflers is a law for sound, although cat is still required by law.

driving on the freeway the sound was especially annoying

A muffler isn't required by law, but different states each have their own requirements for sound levels. Look it up for yours.

I have no muffler. I just push the clutch in whenever I see a cop.

ive been driving about two months w/o a muffler, just a cat. it has gotten annoying. its fun if i dont drive my car all week, then take it out on a saturday and have some fun, but for DD, it gets old fast. i plan on putting my muffler back on, as i want a quiet car for the drive to california.

You are going to want to kill yourself after driving around with no muffler for a couple of weeks.

My car doesn't have a muffler, just a pair of resonators. If that counts as "no muffler."
