Is this seal install going to cause problems?

Just installed a new output shaft seal on my ZF trans and as you can see I have gone past "flush" with the placement of,the seal. Is this going to now be more susceptible to a leak? Or does it not matter since the inner diameter of the housing is not stepped? TIA.

    Wow- you really overperformed, there.

take a marker and blacken your output flange seal surface.
Install the flange with a little oil, and spin it a bunch.
Then pull it, and see if the seal lip's riding on the surface.
    If it is, you're ok.
If not, you get to do it again.
Deburr the outer edge of the housing before you do.

Thanks for the reply. Yep, I overdid it, and I should have known better because I've done this job before. That's what I get for working tired. So can I assume from your reply that as long as the seal is actually touching the flange while turning I'm okay? Thanks again -

That's my experience- it just needs to ride on the machined surface...

It is often common practice to place the seal in a slightly different location to the old seal so that the new seal is running on smooth new steel. It is possible that the output shaft has worn over the years and that what causes a leak...

However moving it by 2" is not common practice! haha

              LOL!

Thanks for the feedback, y'all... It is making very light contact but I ordered a new seal just to play it safe.
