Not true. Neighbor from an old apt complex I lived in here in Ct owns/has owned a manual since new. Very very few exist; his is also an 850.

850s did. not the same

As already suggested, the euro 840 was available in a 6 speed:

The 540i tranny conversion is a great thought.

Correcto. The engine is strong in this car, and the interior is nice, making a good candidate for a manual swap
