    dumb question

dumb question but I was wondering, for my own personal knowledge, is ETA pronounced as a word or as three letters??
for example, is it ETA(etta) or is it ETA(E..T..A)

    Thanks

Well i say it E.T.A and i believe that is correct because "etta" doesnt sound correct and what if you have a I motor what would it be? "setta"? doesnt sound right does it.

I believe it is pronounced "etta" or "ayta", just like the greek letter that it signifies.

For reference, the SETA would probably be pronounced "S. etta" or "S. ayta"

it's pronounced as a word. "Ayta"

Eta is the greek word for efficiency, thusly describing accurately the eta engine platform (gas mileage).

I know that eta signifies the Greek letter, but here's another thing to think about...
The symbol for the Greek letter "eta" is "H".
So, shouldn't BMW have named the car a 325H instead of a 325e?

              well thats good to know.
but I agree with the first guy. It may be pronounced etta or ayte but it just sounds weird.
E.T.A. is just easier to say and not to mention it just sounds better

              thanks for the replies

Right.. but know that it is ETA or Eta.. not E.T.A. It's not an abbeviation or an acronym for something else.

I am assuming the greek letter "H" is pronounced "Eta"... so they stuck to an english translation: leaving them with E.

either way im sure theres logic behind it...it's fucking German Bayerische Motoren Mechanic nerds. :) Ill dig a little bit and find it out.

Well much like english, german is another language full of stupid phrases that are totally meaningless or misunderstood when translated word for word.

                      E.T.A. = Estimated Time of Arrival :D

                      So stick with "ayta" LOL

                            I call it E.T.A. you don't call it a 325"eee" (325i) you say 'i'

                            edit:

Better example, you don't call it a 325 icks, you call it a 325 I.X.
