    Somme more cleaning!

Since I'm converting an obd2 engine to obd1, I need to adapt the coolant hose of the obd1 engine to to the obd2 one. My s50 timing cover is broken so I managed to remove te little adapter...!

    From here

    To go there

Also started the e34 oil pan cleaning!
The one on the s50 was also broken...

    First degreasing

    That's it for now

                bummer about the engine explosion....

Im curious why that shop said the aluminum block wasnt a good idea for the track? Was it the block PLUS the M54 internals or are they paranoid about just the block itself??

I was paranoid about the harmonics because I was initially going to use a S52 crank as well, but thought I should stay with the 2.8 because its a balanced 84mm crank and 84mm stroke.

If I remember correctly, they talked about the thermal capacity of the block and their experience with race engine. There was a class where they were running a 330 e46 and they had to keep the "stock" engine and they were limited to 300hp. I think they ran into many problems with that engine... but dont quote me on that. I talked to thwm like 6 months ago...

Just dropped the pan to replace the oil pump, secure the nut, pan...etc. while there I removed the baffle and look into the cylinder from the bottom end and rotated the engine. I definitely hear air coming out of the cylinder between piston and cylinder. It's leaking by the rings... the engine has been sitting for 2 years... hard to do a compression test with engine out... video will come.

                        Is it normal?

Yeah... pretty bad! Bent a rod during cranking because of a leaking injector... didn't notice... 2 weeks later broken Rod on the "local" track... same cylinder than the one that had hydraulocked. ..

                                Now on the good things!

E34 pan on, and replacing the valve seal this week. Wanted to do this because Like 3-4 years ago I did the valve retainers on my s50... while there I also did the seals. The old ones where all dried up and cracked...

After the first cam up, inspected the seal and they seams in pretty good shape... but will probably do them anyway since my timing is already messed up and one cam is removed... will sleep on this!
