    1989 325ix Dinan Turbo stablemate for my 1988 E24 M6

    Hello,

My intro and entry into the E30 scene. This thread will be as much about my new to me E30, I guess a little about me and my old school mechanic Steve in GA. Most everything that you'll read about what "I" am doing to this car really probably means Steve. He's a real familiar with these old school cars. If your wondering why I mention him. Since I am no mechanic, without him to help, this thread and car would never have become a reality for me. He's not aware of this thread.... or at least not yet.... Its funny how life work out.. Back in 2013 when I decided to drive my 88 E24 M6 from Montreal Canada to Miami ( yes I really did it) I had my first and only ever mechnical issue with it, the clutch and slave cylinders failed. He helped me when I got stuck on the road in NC. I had found him through the E24 forums. He took the time to help the local mechanic for hours to get my slave and master clutch cylinders replaced. He emailed over the reference pages on how to etc just out of kindness and BMW camaraderie. He earned my trust that weekend.

    Now about me a little....
I've always liked the 325 especially the ix variant. Maybe its those factory fender flairs or the rocker side skirts. The AWD too. I've wanted one sine high school. Thats a long time ago. This is my first E30. I've owned a 1988 E24 M6 with 57000 miles since 2007. Its silver with black interior. I started looking for a 325ix with the intention of using it as a daily driver. That may change....
I'll probably be looking to this group for aide in keeping it running perfectly.

    ****Updated****
I also look forward to contributing to the community where and when I can. I personally do not poses the level of mechanical skills like most due here, probably mostly due to lack of time or trying, but I do learn and source work from reputable mechanics or shops. I will aways share what I learn if it can help someone else out. I'll start with the body. The car was cosmetically in a poor state when I got it. I diamond in the rough. I looked past that knowing this IX was well worth the entry price considering its history. See my post below with some before pictures.

    Finally the car...

    E30 325ix AWD 1989
    69000 original documented miles
Automatic Trans (my M6 & Triumph are manual, I wanted an Auto with the turbo)
Lachilsber (Silver) exterior with black interior

The Dinan mods were all done at Dinan in California back in the day when to was nearly new.
    Dinan Turbo
    Dinan Chip
Dinan Automatic transmission upgrades and shift kit
Dinan exhaust I think its complete from front to back. Muffler is stamped Dinan
Dinan suspension upgrades - slightly lowered
Dyno sheet from Dinan showed 296HP

I have a log book from previous owner for every fill up, fuel consumption etc .. he is a pilot.

Two sets of wheels, the original weaves and the ones that are on the car now. The original wheels still have the factory tires from 1989 with plenty of tread. Naturally I do not presume they are safe and will not use tires.

I have not taken delivery as I await transport. It will be shipped to GA to specialist on these old school BMW's for a full review. He's a legend in the old school BMW M cars according to many. He's primarily active on bimmerforums on the E24 side. Maybe after this car that can change some. Then its off to South FL Miami where I live.

Here are some pictures, engine shots pending as they forgot to take some after cleaning it.

    Best regards,

    Max

How rude of me. Sure here it is. The engine shot is from a few months ago when I had the valve adjustment done. It was so clean when the took the valve cover off. I am trying to post pictures of the interior but the upload keeps jamming.

Shout Out to APC paint correction shop

          Hello

For those of you in the north east, especially NY or NJ area, you are in luck if your looking for a great detail shop. They are not your average shop. They do full proper paint correction, and arrange dent removal, plus full interior detail, rubber restore and more. These guys are the best! He outsources the paintless dent removal to guy that is probably one of the best, organized it for me to get done at his shop and did not up charge on the work. When you think your paint cannot be fixed without body work, you are probably wrong. When you think your paint is done for, your probably wrong too. Take it to Anthony. I am so impressed that I will ship my 1988 M^ up from South Florida to him for the same treatment.

Only have pictures of the engine before we started the clean up. I had hoped to include some after its been cleaned and the little bits needing attention, sorting or detailing done but here's a couple. The hood foam has since been removed and a mojor detail like to body had been done.

It starts right up each time and the turbo spools up nicely. Feels and sounds like a 69K mile BMW engine. That said, all the corroded bolts and brackets will either be replaced or restored. The turbo pipes will be removed, blasted and powder coated. All hoses and exhaust sheilds will be replaced. I am pretty much having all the mechanicals gone through by a specilist in GA. Hi sname is Steve... I am sure I will be referencing him alot.

I am curious, why would you ask if it still has the AC? Yes it does.

                Thanks

I know it's a funny question, just curious since usually people remove the condenser to mount a intercooler. Dinan cars are so unique; glad the car is in good hands.

wow, I don't know how many ix's Dinan built but it couldn't have been more than a handful. Another one is owned by Satch Carlson of BMW Roundel fame - I'm not the biggest Dinan fan in the world, but these cars were really well put together, probably by Steve Dinan himself.

Satch told me at some point what the suspension was, I don't really remember except that he said he does road rallies and it was way too low, lol.

You bought it! Good score, I was drooling over this thing when it came up. This is such a cool car, I love it. How does the auto shift compared to other E30 autos you have experienced?
