Got the other rods today, M54B30, will try to testfit the tomorow.

They are here compared with the following.

    M54B30 135mm - M20B25 135mm - S50B32 Euro 138,9mm

And then M54B30 on top of a M20B25 rod.

it looks like the m54b30 rod is the one to use over the m20 rod?

Yeah 24v rods clear the bottom of the bore much better as a result.

I got an email from Athena and they can do custom 86mm gaskets minimum 15 order, not really what I was looking for and they didnt answer my questions.

I've found the gasket from Cometic :)

          86mm 0.098"/2,5mm
          Item number H1244SP1098S

They don't have shown on their site.

            I can get the JE/Athena one, it's a cut ring thats 85.5mm:

Shoot over your address I can get you an estimated cost. Might be able to beat those guys

*EDIT* whoops I see that you need the .098mm variant.

Having said that, I can get the cometic variant as well

There a dozen or so thicknesses cometic will make in a custom bore for m20. It's not a difficult problem to solve

The Athena won't work with the 86mm. I did ask if you could use one of the steel rings / inserts from a S52 and add to the m20 gasket but got no response that clarified and I gave up

FWIW I have been using Cometic gaskets for years on various builds without issue - even when the block was not decked for the 50ra. I drill the rivets out and put a light layer of copper spray on each side of the layers.

I find it odd that people are concerned about MLS gaskets when the Elring and VR replacements leak about 90% of the time at the front oil return passage.

its just cost, but if you are using 86mm forged pistons with a full rebuild then in the grand scheme its not the end of the world. i complied a list of thicknesses sometime ago

                  1.14

                  1.78
                  1.91
                  2.03
                  2.18
                  2.26
                  2.34
