    Power top tonneau sound

My top had been operating. Up until recently during operation the top operated just fine, so it doesn't look like it's the bottom motor issue I see so much of. Instead when the tonneau cover is lifting, it makes a sound that sounds like a gear is skipping or stripping. The tonneau would not do more than open a tiny bit. When closing, it could not do so with the strength needed to lock the tonneau. It was quite worrisome.

Since then I've removed the upper center motor for the tonneau cover. I disassembled the entire motor looking for issues. I couldn't find any indication of gears slipping or stripping. Am I looking in the right place?

This has to do with the motor pulling away from the lever that lifts the lid. There is a post about someone who fixed this issue by using hoses clamps to hold the motor in place.
