New to the forum everyone just had a quick question my friend is debating with me on whether straight pipes reduce power due to back pressure but doesn't back pressure hold the car back? If I have a completely free flow system then isn't that the best case for an exhaust system? I have a 325ix just got if about 2 months ago

Just leave your exhaust alone. Whatever you're talking about, isn't what you think it is. all you are going to do is make it really loud for no reason. please don't destroy another ix.

if you take your manifold off, and let the head breathe free like willy jumping a wall,
your gonna screw the engine up.
get a nice header to start.(i recommend ANYTHING from Ireland Engineering!!)
depending on your engine find a nice size pipe to allow the gas to freely flow, (2.25-3.5")
play with it as far as muffler, many mufflers are straight through designs and just help to "dampen" the sound so it doesnt sound like a lawnmower on steriods.
your only limit is money and time.

I had that happen with my old truck. 2000 silverado, 6.0L 360+ cubic inch. had 3" pipes all the way to back for each bank, then 17" long 5.5" tips, backed up to a barrier in the parking at niagara falls casino, fired the truck up and 5 car alarms went off. I laughed till I pulled out and had to stop at the gas station

Anytime my room mate or I can't figure something out betwen us, the answer always ends up being "We'll just ask Nando" haha. Kind of a running gag but he's the real deal. From iX front input shaft trickery to cracking s54 DMEs, he's got e30 info on lock. For all things 24v, check out Markert Motorworks!Originally posted by mbonanniI hate modded emtree, I hate modded cawrz, I hate jdm, I hate swag, I hate stanceyolokids, I hate bags (on cars), I hate stuff that is slowz, I hate tires.

I have been toying this idea as well except I just want it to be slightly louder so I wasn't think a true straight pipe. I was think cat back and machining two identical mounts that bolt up to the cat back and then from those conjoining two pipes to one and bend it appropriately and after that just split the pipes coming out the back so it doesn't look like a subaru or honda.1991 325i Calypso Coupe

An m20 with stock midsection cat/resonator but a straight catback is unbearable, I can't even think about what full straight pipes would sound likeOriginally posted by priapismMy girl don't know shit, but she bakes a mean cupcake.Originally posted by shamesonUsually it's best not to know how much money you have into your e30
