e30 m3 drive shaft & e34 diff adjustment

My driveshaft at first wasnt fitting at all, it was about 1-1.5 inches too long. I am not 100% sure on how to adjust it, it looks like there is a collar you can screw backwards near the splines by the CSB. I managed just to push it back together a bit, but I still need about another 1/4 inch.

Do I just unscre this collar? I wanted to know if it was reverse threaded too. I need to have it so I am unable to see any of the splines I think.... I hope it pushs back that far.

Standard thread, just loosen it up and give it a shove.

Hmm, I have the driveshaft as small as it will go, but it is still too long... anyone have an idea?
