    Exhaust manifold stud replacement

Removed the manifold recently and a few of the studs came out with the nut. To those who've replaced/installed new ones, how did you get the new ones in and how tight should they be?

I don't have actual experience with a BMW specifically, but usually the stud tightness isn't a big issue as long as they are fully inserted and snug. The tension caused by the nut pulling on the block through the stud is more important.

As far as the exhaust nut tightening the manifold to the head, Bentley's states 16-17 ft. lbs.

I had some come off as well. I ended up removing the nuts from the studs off the car with a vice. Lubed em up real good to get rid of all the corrosion and reinstalled the studs by hand until they were tight. Then I did a quarter turn more. Aluminum head can easily strip so be easy
