      Let's build some coilovers

Here is the strut assent torn down

With the spring perch and the hub/brake assembly, it won't fit in my chop saw. So I took tape and wrapped it around and over lapped it, giving me a straight light to follow as best I can

Next I removed the spring perch

Next I measured the difference between the Volvo and the Saab strut

Next I marked the spot and tossed this in the chop saw

      Test fit

The the A1 racing sleeves I got don't fit with the stock thick paint so I knocked that all down

I also chamfered the ends where I am welding them together so my welds go deep when I grind them flat

I tossed the old blown Volvo strut in when I did my tack welds to assure its all straight

        Lets make a M50 powered Volvo 240

Next I took the old insert out as its tacked straight and did a full weld all around

        Next clean the surface

Next see how far down I need to weld the lower threaded sleeve perch

        Fully welded

        Primer

        Black

Still need to adjust both sides even but we are getting closer

                Thanks guys

It looks a tad bit funny because the rear still at stock, but right now it's in the air getting a new clutch to keep it on the road while I collect the parts

That's the only one I have

Pulling the trans was a nightmare, I'm to use to BMWs, this thing looks to be cast iron, heavy as hell, and upper starter bolt and top bell housing bolts are a huge pain to get to.

Here is a side by side of my used clutch disc I got to keep the thing in the road compared to the one I pulled out. Factory Volvo,220,000 miles hahah

great work! making those coilovers is pretty damn cool too! I've always wanted to do that with the IX. where did you sort the sleeves and threaded portions?

Well I was thinking that if I'm going though all the work of building mounts and such, why not go big. Then I found a company in Sweden that makes a custom mount that lets the m60 bolt straight to the Volvo sub-frame, my buddy has a e34 530i 5 speed sitting in his garage, and I was able to get a flywheel and clutch kit from a e34 530i for 150.

Things just seem to want to go V8, just keeping an eye out for a 740i at the auctions
