Clutch Kit & Fly wheel question

hey Guys,

I'm in the market for a new clutch. My current clutch is done. My car is an 86 325e. doesn't have any mods at the moment. I love driving my car during the weekend and in occasions i drive to work down the 405 bumper to bumper traffic :) i was thinking of buy the Sachs clutch. any recommendations, i'm also thinking of starting to participate on track attacks events.

Is sachs okay? what fly wheel do you think is also good? i'm new to the game and i dont have any friends with BMW. please let me know your 2cents.

The OE Sachs clutch is more than enough for a stock engine. SpecE30 uses the stock clutch and they don't have many problems even though they thrash them quite hard. As far as the flywheel is concerned someone else will have to chime in, I'm not too familiar with the "e" flywheel or upgrades for it.

Stick with the Sachs kit. If your car has the dual mass flywheel you could upgrade to the single mass flywheel. It must be from an Eta though so that it has the pins for the crank reference sensor. Have your flywheel resurfaced at a machine shop.

Related question in terms of Eta clutch. I have a 9/85 build '86 Eta, so single mass flywheel.

I don't have any clutch issues at the moment but need to know:

I have a new clutch kit (disc, pressure plate, pilot & release bearing and the alignment tool) I bought from a guy for $100 that will work when the time comes.

Do I just replace the above parts, or do I need to do the flywheel as well (or get it resurfaced?) Since this my DD, I need the most cost and time effective option when this does occur. If I need to replace the flywheel, I'm guessing just buy new?

It's hard finding parts for an 86. everything i find is for an 87 and up.

Run a used single mass flywheel from an Eta. In other words, a 1984-1987 325/325e/325eS. Some models had them and some didn't. You don't need to buy a new flywheel nor is there much aftermarket support for the Eta engine. I might have a flywheel laying around I can sell you. I will check today.
