Sorry - I got the question wrong.

removable bell housing = easier IMHO.

With that said - it all comes down to matching tranny length to DS length. The center of the drive shaft has 2-3" of splines so that give you a tiny bit of room to work with. As you can imagine, you don't really want to mess with that measurement too much. It's made to slip back and forth with the motor, that's all.

When I had my drive shaft cut for a g265 w/removable bellhousing - and then tried to use a 260, the drive shaft was too short and the splines wouldn't even touch. So I sourced another g265. Does that Jerid Squires(spelling?) site have more info?

Don't get too dismayed over all of this. Once you are done, you LOVE the TQ - it's amazing. It's becomes so fun just to point the car, and step on the gas and your there.

I can't wait for this because I think it will remind me of the torque in my old car with a 3.2L vr6 in it, 240hp and about the same amount of torque, but it was much heavier and with awd but was still fun as hell. Can only imagine what that would do in a light early 318i lol

I am just trying to avoid this whole cutting/custom driveshaft deal to make it simpler and economical :)

I hear you - some guys have said they only had to pay like $50 at a semi truck repair shop to have their DS shortened.

I paid like 400 + $250 for a used M3 e30 shaft - but that was a complete rebuild with brand new joints, balanced, ect. None of my local shops would even tough my shaft - ummm, you know what I ment.

Yeah, I've read through your m30 swap page and I think I even saved the whole thing locally too lol...

The only thing that won't be as easy for me is that fact that I would be doing this to my 318i, so no chance to get it smogged as easily if it was say a 325i to begin with, you know what i mean.

This whole tranny/driveshaft mess does worry mean though... sigh. I am going to keep it with s3.73 though for sure. I take it i'll need a FULL e30 325i or m30 harness ? I wonder if i'll need an m20 fusebox side as well....

Here is what Jares says about the DS issue - http://www.jaredsquires.com/ndp/335i/m30/page10.html

That' with the Getrag 260 m30 tranny according to his previous page

            Short Story:

In brief here is my solution for a 1990 E30 325i and a 1990 E34 535i combination. Take the front part of the 535i driveshaft and place it on the back part of the E30 driveshaft. Make sure you install a new E30 center bearing. Install driveshaft. Scratch your head and wonder what everyone else is bitching about. No cutting. No welding. And the driveshaft is balanced enough that unless you are driving for extended periods at 150+ mph you will never know the difference. If you want to get it balanced, be my guest, but you can run for a good amount of time without having to spend $200+ on this. (Update: I have been to a track and done over 100 mph and felt no vibration.)

Jean, I recommend using the 260 over the 265 for one major reason.

1: the E30 uses a 260 in the same position. This means that you can use a factory E30 driveshaft, and factory shift linkage.

                Additionally
Being that the 260 in both applications are virtually the same, except for the bolt pattern on the bellhousing, I think that you may be able to swap flanges, for use with a "normal" easy to find E30 driveline.

I am fine with 260, was there an early and late style with and w/o removable bellhousing? I understand 260 came in various different years and cars, is one different and/or better than other and do they have same gear ratios?

                  Thanks!

The 88 635 CSI cars had an M30B34 not an M30B35 even though manifold would say 3.5 correct?

Any 635CSi or L6 from 6/87 on has the M30B35. Since the E24 was BMWs flagship car they got the updated M30 before any of the other models did. If you are going with a 260 just make SURE it's from an M30 and not an M20!!

Though the M30b35 out of the E24 uses the b34 mounts for conversion to E30...

Got the engine, it's complete for the most part. It's from 91 735, has the alternator, power steering pump, a/c compressor, manifold, fuel rail, injectors, fpr, tb and half of the engine harness (someone cut it at the firewall side), has the exhaust headers cut at the lower point before the cat section. Missing starter, afm, and the head coolant part where all the sensors connect to. Pulled the valve cover and it's clean, not even yellow from the old oil. Turns over fine and carfax shows that the car passed smog every time, had a side impact earlier this year.

I think I'll also need a TPS from a manual car as well.

What was the deal with the different types of ignition coils for the M30 cars? I see some used the typical m10/m20 style coil and some had something like this?

                              Under $200 out the door.

I've never seen one like that in person, but if it came stock on some of the E32s and E34s it should work just fine. It looks like it's essentially the same just with a more compact coil.

Also, for what it's worth, I think the TPSs are the same for all B35s. I am using an auto TPS and it works perfectly.
