1993 Suzuki Samurai | Operation: Comfort

Figured I should document what I do to this little beast, finally grabbed a job and I have a lot on my plate for things to get done on her this summer.

This is what I started with late last august

    IMG_9406 by Wschnitz, on Flickr

A mostly stock 1993 Suzuki Samurai

    It came to me equipped with a decent amount of upgrades, but kept its stock appearance. The upgrades included, things in bold are things I've added;

    • 4.90:1 or 6.5:1 Transfer Case Gearing (dunno which)
    • 30x9.5x15 Pro Comp 3ply AT tires
    • Trail Tough 2.5in shackles
    • OME 2.5 Dakar springs
    • Cheap offroad shocks
    • Hammered in fender-wells
    • Trail Tough Belly pan
    • Shrockworks Sliders
    • por15 Undercoat

I then took the time to clean up all the rust spots on the bottom of the truck and then por15 them, after the por15 had set I continued by undercoating the bottom of the truck with por15 rubberized undercoating.
This was an expensive undercoat, but after a winter in Wisconsin its held up perfect (saved where I rubbed it off in fender-wells with all the flexin' I was doing).

After that the modding died until this spring, when I needed to prepare the car for my trip to Moab, UT. Something everyone should do if they own a 4x4, or even if they don't. I added a Trail Tough belly pan plate to protect my low hanging transfer-case and center exhaust.

I then added shrockworks rock sliders to the little beast,
protecting its rocker panels from getting smashed on all the big rocks in the red playground that is Moab.

Then I took her out for some real fun in Moab

    Plans for this summer (hopefully lmao);
    • 33x10.5x15s in BFG MT KM2's (may change if anything I like more comes out)
    • CB Radio and Antenna kit
    • Hammock mount to mount hammock from roll bar to trailer hitch
    • 1-2" Body lift for 33s
    • Axle Reinforcement
    • Better shocks
    • Panhard bar
    • Different steering wheel
    • Seats that dont break my back

Eventually I want to get the looks like this for the fenders, or similar:

    IMG_9722 by Wschnitz, on Flickr

I think square fenders really fit the car, and will add a lot more flex if I want to add more in the future, and will clearance the 33"s perfectly, which I can line up edge of tire with fenders If I plan ahead, eliminating a lot of the mud wash in my face, and cleaning up the excessive poke the tires have.

I mean it's boxy and has circle headlights but that doesn't look like an E30

God I've wanted one of these forever. Pricing seems all over the place.

              That e30 grille looks hillarous.

We can still buy those new down here under the "Suzuki Jimny Sierra" badge - they're a 2 door hardtop, with coil springs vs. the leaves of the old ones. Have a twin cam 1.3L engine in them.

              They're around $20kAUD for a new one.

                        Lol my father.

He likes the samurai until he sits in it and remembers his knees go through the dash.

Removed the non working AC parts:

                          IMG_0592 by Wschnitz, on Flickr

Probably a good 50lbs shaved off front end here. Ready for a big heavy bumper.

                          All this room for activities:

                          IMG_0594 by Wschnitz, on Flickr

Plan of action is to probably remove clutch fan, move radiator forward, and add a pusher or puller electric fan:

Finally made some rubber floor mats out of a 1/2" thick piece of rubber i had rolled up:

Changed the oil with some nice Rotella T4, tomorrow install CB stuff in prep for CB radio.

                            CB Antenna installed

                            20170708_152724 by Wschnitz, on Flickr

If you noticed the two holes, pa always said 'Never Measure, Cut until it fits'.

Now to pick out a CB and decide where to run the cable.
