    Dot 3 boiling .

    Not me.
Just wondering if any of you have boiled your fluid before.

I've brake faded, turned the pads into cheese,
    but never boiled the fluid.
Curious to know if you've got dot 3 or even 4 boiling.

    yes

I was messing with the brake booster and one of my wrenches touched the starter. shorted direct battery power to the master cylinder. it started boiling within about 5 seconds and welded the wrench to my brake booster. melted the plastic clips that hold the brake lines to the frame rail too! flushed the system and it was fine but that fluid was fried.

ok, probably not what you were expecting.. carry on. ;)

Boiling fresh fluid is harder than old fluid. Since brake fluid is hydroscopic it will inherently become contaminated with water and therefore lower its boiling point. There are many ways to lower the boiling point of brake fluid just by exposure to the air. Maybe this is something you already know, and if so my bad. That being said, I have boiled the fluid on my E39 M5 at Skip Barber Motorsports Park (big heavy car on a motoGP course) and it basically ruined the fluid at that point. Boiling the fluid will likely occur somewhere you won't see in your brake system, like the brake caliper.

I've boiled my friend's fluid over on track before... mini s with 230whp but otherwise stock including brakes, fluid, etc. was on circuit de catalunya (ooh la la) so plenty of braking from 100-130mph

Boiled cheap jobber DOT3 in our chumpcar at WGI. Only took about 15 laps in the dry before the pedal started getting soft. That was a "racing by committee" fuckup.

            Keep it slideways!!

I did that up at Mission the first time I took the 2002.

Stopped left- foot braking, and all was fine.
              Lap times went down, too.

now, sometimes I just mess with people. It's more entertaining that way. george graves
