Can get a pair of good new pads for around $40 and the sensor is a cheap part. I'd say if you can find used pads, spend the couple bucks on the sensor and the pesky light will stop. As long as your rotors are good to go, you can fool around with the pads.

Definitely make sure everything works, better to be safe than sorry.

      Wait, what?

Is your brake light on the check panel coming on? Or the pad indicator warning? Big difference in the two. How does it physically feel when stopping?

If they physically feel fine, and its not an pad wear indicator, they you likely need to replace the brake pedal switch or sand the contacts and reinstall.

If the brake pad indicator is on, inspect rotors with a caliper and make sure they are in spec. Inspect pads for life. Replace where needed. Make sure you buy the $3 pad wear indicator sensor (Febi brand). That will turn the indicator light off. Or you can be a cheapy and bypass that system.
