I will be around $25k when all said and done.

But that is a car that will be 100% repainted, 100% new interior, S54/6sp, OEM Mtech II all new suspension BBS RS wheels etc.

The S54, Wheels Mtech II and all new M3 seats and Paint will take up the largest chuck of that budget.

Will it be worth $25k or more when its done, probably close due to being a 100% new car when done.

Do I care no, I built it for me, if I built for resale I would have cut a lot of things WAY down.

I would add it up, but I'm having an okay day and want to keep it that way.

Paid $3k for the car, immediately had to spend $1500-2000 on full tuneup, reseal, AFM, CV axle and a bunch of other stuff. Could never get it running right, then that motor died, so $600 for another M20, then $600 more to reseal it, timing belt, water pump, hoses, etc. and pay my buddy to help me install it. $400 on sport seats, $200 on sunroof parts, $400 used LSD diff, $400 rebuilt driveshaft. $1200 on Konis and partial suspension rebuild. $1000 on tires because i keep burning through them as I can't afford to have my rear subframe redone since the first guy fucked up installing the camber adjusters and refused to fix it. A couple hundred to have wheels straightened that are already bent again. $100 on shifter parts but the shifter is still the worst of any car I have owned. I have almost $200 into trying to fix my leaking trunk that still floods every rain.

To estimate, I have $10-12k into the car, and it needs an immediate $1500 in work as soon as I have expendable income again. Also needs a paintjob ASAP, and with 250k miles on its current M20 I am really hoping I can afford to put an S50/S52 in it before it needs M20 no. 3.

I have a couple of late model coupe shells laying around and 5-6 nearly complete parts cars. Would someone pay $20-30K for a all ready done complete car? The would include some modifications (engine swaps, interiors, wheels, susp, etc) Im budgeting 20K on my next coupe and I plan on a Mtech2 late model with a fully rebuilt S52, color swap, coilovers, etc. Like I said a few posts up im into mine 30+ but it has a completely rebuilt S54 and touring so that alone is a few $k more. I know the resd M54 coupe went for $30kish but is that a realistic number for more then just a small handful of people?
No it is not a realistic number for more than a small handful of people. But it is proof that we should all be asking way more money for clean cars.

I don't know, $8,000? I could dig through my records and add it up if it became necessary but I found it counterproductive to keep a rolling total after the first few months. I go out of my way to get a deal on things and mind a budget. It's better not to add it up and dwell on it, because I won't get anything out of doing so. I'm not going to sell it and even if I did I'm not dumb enough to think I'd get the money back.

I just spent $2557.81 tonight on parts for a suspension refresh and brake rebuild on my touring. That does not include the GC coilovers I will be ordering, and the new steering rack that I still need to order. Since I acquired the car in mid December I have added recaro trophys, aftermarket stereo, timing belt kit, master and slave cylinder, mtech shift boot and ebrake boot, new headunit, diff and transmission flush, belts, distributer rotor and cap, sparkplugs, lol.

This year, I've spent a grand total of $57... on renewed registration. haha. I haven't driven it since like October of last year - need to rebuild both sets of CV shafts.

The good thing it sits nice and warm on a trickle charger inside my garage, so I can just jump in it and take it out whenever I like, but the weather here has been so shitty this winter I haven't bothered.

I responded to this thread ages ago but I long stopped even keeping receipts for it. On the other hand, since I don't daily it anymore, it costs me basically nothing. I haven't bought anything for it in like 2 years, other than gas, insurance and registration.

My wife even stopped complaining because it seems like whenever we need a 3rd car, or another car is being worked on - it's always the trusty E30 that I can rely on to get the job done. :)

This is awesome and exactly where I hope to have mine by the beginning of next summer. It should almost be there in a few weeks but still have a interior resto to tackle.
