I have the following engine options available to me. Which one would you guys go with?
1) M50TUb25 (already have it): 200K miles. Out of E34, so it already has the pan. Removed from the car 6 months ago. Has harness and red label 413 ECU with it. I have this engine in my garage and bought it from a local trusted E30 guy who says it ran great.
2) M52b28 ($750 + OBDII swap tune): 147K miles, out of a ’97 manual sedan. At a large reputable junk yard. Pulled from the car in February. They have a video of it running and warranty it for 6 months. However, modifying it with the E34 pan will void the warranty. FREE delivery of the engine included. No ECU or accessories with it. Manual harness and piping included.
3) M52b28 ($500, or less if I pull it, + OBDII swap tune): 135K miles, out of a 98 AUTO convertible. At a small junkyard. Has been sitting in the car since January 2014. They will provide either the auto harness on it, or give me a manual harness they have. However, the manual harness looked like it had a few things cut (dude says they were just vacuum lines in with the harness, it was tough to see). It’s cheap, but i’m worried about the valve seals after sitting for so long, and the harness will take work to sort out. ECU included. I can get this for the $400 range if I pull it out of the car myself. Trans is already disconnected from it.
I can pull parts off the B25 and part it out, or re-sell it as it is if I buy an M52.
-The M50 is ready to drop in, but has a lot of miles.
-M52 #1 would cost me like $1100 after an ECU and tune.
-M52 #2 would cost me like $700 or $800 after a tune.
What option makes the most sense to you?
