Took my E34 to get emissions done yesterday and it did not pass. Verdict was hydrocarbons and carbon monoxide was too high so picked up some stuff for a tune up yesterday to solve some problems (spark plugs, air filter). Any other parts you guys can think to replace? Hopefully its not o2 sensors or the cats.

Really? they still have emission in the North Georgia area, I thought it was done away with as they dont have them anywhere in lower Ga and I havent seen any in years traveling, I know I was in Florida about 10 plus years ago and emissions was horrible, lucky they ended it the program 1 year too late to help me somewhat, I once had a 1984maseratti Quarttroportte or spelling some close without looking it up bought cheap $900 sold for $3500 yes need an engine job, sold the engine work as well. then trying to do emissions for the sale to help new owner out, it wouldnt past so finally after 4 times of various work and tune ups my friends and I just did a vaccum leak to make it run so bad that it almost stopped and it barely passed. I have an o2 sensor, off my m5 if you need to buy one cheap? I am on the Ga/fl off 95 if you need any parts. I doubt it is the cats. you can email me at bmwextremeparts@yahoo.com

Most likely either intake leak post maf, vacuum leak from cracked hoses or maybe really poor valve cover gasket or weak coil(s)
Pretty much any car properly tuned can pass the rollers with no cat as complete combustion produces water and CO2
Post up your numbers and we can help with the diagnosis

Well I did some work, changed the plugs and air filter and put in a new o2 sensor. When I took it in the first time it failed on carbon monoxide and hydrocarbons but on the retest after I did the work it failed on NOX. Its weird that it passed that the first time but failed after I replaced the parts.
