    Suspension question...

    Hey everyone -

    I just recently aquired a 1990 325i convertible. I've had several coupes and always gone with ground control kits but this car is for my wife..so I would appreciate some feedback/advice on my suspension setup for it.

    I dont want the ride to be too harsh, the car is hers and will essentially be daily driven to and from work.

    I have 16x8 style 5 wheels to go on it. I am a little concerned with rubbing if I go to low.

    I am considering either a GC coil kit, megan coils (i don't like the install required for these), or H&R cab springs + koni yellows + camber plates (or just new mounts). Probably will add X brace or rear strut mount.

    Should be fine, what are the specs on the style 5 wheels and what tires? Those are the main concerns for rubbing or not.

      16x8 et 23 with 18mm adapters. Was going to use 205/45-16 tires.

        I'm running H&R cab springs with Koni Yellows. X brace is pending install.

        It's a good ride. Definitely performance focused but a substantially better ride than the Bilstein setup I had before. Dampening is okay. I'm not sure what your roads are like but if they're in good condition you'll be happy.

        Camber plates are a must. I need to install some soon to correct my alignment.

          Im running H&R Cabrio springs w Koni yellow as well and I love the ride, but then I drive it like my 911 (just w 1/2 the HP). Id def describe it as a tight ride and not cushy so depends how she feels about DDing it. I did have drop hats in it but my mud flaps scraped going in and out of the driveway so it is on the low side.

            So final offset is 5mm? You're going to need a roll for sure.

              Ive had a few verts over time and I would go,

              H&R/Koni for the comfort and budget wise
              I have GC touring and normal kit but for dd I would go with 400/550. I love it but sometimes I do miss the comfort of springs with stock strut hats... but with the wheel setup you are going to be running very close to fenders when turning and depending on tires... The alittle extra firmness will percent rubbing on speedy turns.

              X-Brace is must! Best mod I've done for the e30 vert. My go to if I buy anotherone without it.

                I have a ground control set up as well, I can't remember the spring rates off hand but they are pretty conservative and the ride is still sporty but not harsh at all.

                  I don't think of Koni Yellows as a budget damper, especially since they cost more than the BS Sports I replaced with them. IMO they handle every bit as well (if not better).

                  Calling them a "comfort" shock suggests a compromise that I don't see.

                    I ended up with BS Sports and H&R coupe springs, drophats up front, IE street camber plates, and just new factory rubber mounts all around. I liked that look a lot.

                    Thanks for the advice above, going to go ahead and order an X-brace now.
