    Recirculating air

Confused but excited noobie here. Air conditioning back to work, but when recirc switch is pressed light goes on but no sign (change in the air noise) the outside vents are closing.
What does this switch activate and where to look for? Thanks

Moves the two rods (via actuator motors) on the heater/blower box that close/open the vents for the outside air.

Where are they (the rods, the actuator motors)?
      Sorry to be so ignorant.
      Thanks

You should be able to get at one of them by removing plastic above glove box.
Other one is in same general area on other side.

Thanks Dashboardmonkey, but I took off that plastic and the other (vertical at side of upper console) and I only see cables from sliding controls that goes to open close def & central vents on the right side and foot air on the left side, nor a single elctric driven actuator for recirc flap (that goes where??)
            Appreciate your comments.

What year model is your car?

Here you can see the two actuators on the left and right sides, they are facing each other if you will, the rods go towards the front of the car.

Yep, just below the left/right air vents that feed the air into the dash. The actuators move the rods, and in turn close/open the vents (flaps) on the other side of the box where the blower fan is located.

You can always remove the air intake covers and take a look in there, get a flashlight and have someone push the button for you, you'll see the flaps opening/closing.

Let me add something more relevant. Does your fan turn on low speed when you hit the recirc button?

My HVAC fan now turns on to what seems like speed 1 if the fan speed knob is set to off and I press the recirc button. It's a 91 318i and the switch is from an unknown year.
