Do you know the reasoning behind this?

DId you do a before/after dyno? The lean spike might have been there all along...

but it does sound good for free
Do you have dyno results to prove this? I've seen both before and after and the difference is around .4 hp

DuButt Dyno. But it pulls much better without sucking in hot engine bay air.

Somehow even if you are speaking the truth, I believe there is a big difference between an open hood with a fan on the front of your car and then stop and go traffic and a closed hood....

            ventilated lower airbox=lean spike
stock solid lower airbox=no lean spike
            swapped it on the dyno
no I dont have the graphs.

which one did you do first? maybe more air was comming in the the drilled box and made it run leaner or something? i dunno

that is most likely the case, but who cares? it sounded cool!

well i would think the engine would adapt and return to running normally after some driving with the drilled

if I take out my chip and put in my drilled box, i can drive with none of the extra horsepower and all of the fuh raze sounds....! and run 87 octane~! (m50 injectors will make it run perfect too!!!~`!)
