Ryno, It sure is a sweet upgrade for those that don't have it.

        5 second timer.

And some just burn away, like the Central Lock Modules do.

for those that requested pic, here's it's tested drawer.
Most of them were manufactured by Hella, BMW part # 1 373 974 ...
or 975 (with secondary removable clip on bracket)

        and or by Wehrle / BMW # 61 31 1 380 231.2

for those of you with cabrios / iC, fuggetaboutit ., i tried but wiring is not same as in coupes, sedans or wagons.

(edit: i stand corrected, they do work on cabrios too, see follow up posts)

so how do i know if my car came with the delay relay in the first place, but maybe it just wigged out on me (without checking part # on the relay because i'm tired!)?

I'm not positive, but part # 61 31 1 373 974 is listed on RealOEM (#2 on the diagram). I've never taken mine apart because I've never had a problem with it.

uhm, thanks, # 974'si9 got plenty of, so it must be something in the A pillar connectors.
                        thanks again.

for those who may still be having problems with their interior light delay, i discovered my problem was the drivers side exterior door handle switch. according to the wiring diagram it has has an note: "Timer is enabled when driver's exterior door handle switch AND any door jamb switch close..." {every time you open the driver's side door you're working this switch connected to the door handle} So, instead of tracking down a switch and pulling the door panels off, i just grabbed a quick splice:

simply lay the two wires you want to splice side by side in the quick splice, take a pair of pliers and squeeze down on the metal tab (which pierces the insulation, etc). and close the plastic cover.

I looked at the wiring of the relay socket and spliced the brown/green wire (door handle switch) with the brown/yellow wire (door jamb switch). Works great.

                                /
