What is the best candidate to receive my S52 goodies
So i have an E36 M3 and looks like it will have to be sacrificed for a E30 swap if i don't get rid of it till the end of this week (running m3 at 2800$ by the way)
If i end up keeping this car, it will end up used for a E30 Swap Fo Sho. Now i'm looking for a good candidate and i would like your input on what i should be looking for. Best Year, model and options. I have a good offer for a 325ix and i'm not sure if the awd model would be a good receiver. Do the all wheel drive take the torque the S52 puts ? I plan on turbo-ing the s52 and i'm not sure if the 325ix transfer case is up to the job. I would definitely love to have the touring model, but a sedan would work great too. For those that have done the swap, what do you regret about your receiver ? What would you want to see in the next swap you do ? |

the Ix presents unique problems in that the oilpan is the front diff mount point, in additon to any issues created with the engine tilt. Best candidate would be a clean late model of your choosing. the cleaner the better. drivetrain condition matters not, so get the best shell you can.

coupes are cool. But no one likes losing to 4 doors. And cheaper insurance. can stay under the radar a little more too

Besides the oil pan on the AWD, what other challenges i may face ? What about the torque and transfer case ? The guy is also including an extra transfer case.. and too all the stick shift fans - this IX is an auto. And the though of an auto AWD S52 turbo engine is making me wet. Talk me out of it ! I've done some Mercedes AMG swaps and what i realized is that you HAVE TO find a rare receiver or otherwise it doesn't make financial sense. A touring would make a lot of sense to receive S52 goodies. What's the next rarest model after the wagon ? |

i think i read it somewhere that it won't fit in an ix or it would be difficult to fit it in.
i wish i freshened up the engine before i swapped it in... |

it is possible to swap it into a ix however it requires a load of custom fabrication to do so because of the front diff and oilpan, i know an m50 has been swaped into one once just to prove it was doable but its not exactly time and cost effective and not really possible unless you have extensive fabrication capabilities. a clean latemodel would be the best your best starting point for that particular swap. find yourself a 91 318i and you will basicly only need to find a e34 oilpan and throttle cable setup and a 413 ecu (few other small things but everything is available to purchase for the swap if you have limited skills at your disposal)

Thanks for the heads up.
Have to start looking for a clean 90s sedan. Now, how do you locate the donor ? I have a 1997 M3, but looks like it will be sold this weekend. It will probably sell for 2800$. Should i keep it for the swap, or sell it and buy the parts for the swap ? |

i'm confused. are you asking if you should sell the car, then buy an S52 and an e30? or if you should tear apart the e36 and swap all those parts into an e30?
i'd do the latter. also, you have PM. |

Yes. I'm debating if i should:
Keep this m3 and buy an e30 to use the m3 for Or Sell the whole car for 2800 and buy only the parts needed for the swap and the e30 pm replied.. thanks Last edited by MEPEH; 08-03-2012 at 03:49 PM.. |

Keep the M3, part it out. Put drive train in an E30.
