    Does it make a different if I put a motometer cluster or a VDO cluster in? Whole assembly not mix matching parts.

      FWIW I discovered my own '86 eta (Motometer cluster) had its speedo swapped with a VDO one by the PO. When I took it out to replace the odo gears, that's when I realized it. The speedo fit of course but anytime I drove it, the speedo would peg at like 120 mph and just stay there. THe cluster lights were also quite dim; not sure if that was related. Video of that at my e30 resurrection post...

      I picked up a Motometer speedo off fleabay, replaced the odo gears, installed and BOOM, working speedo and odometer. Lights were good too as a bonus. Hope this helps

        VDO and Motometer parts are 100% interchangeable, as long as they are from the same generation of cluster (early/late - you can tell by the # of SI lights).
