My problem is that I had a legitimate need for assistance, and was denied. Meanwhile many people play the system and get tax dollars while dropping hundreds on their hair, or putting their need for drugs above feeding their children.

I have lived on all ends of the income level, and have seen the shit that goes on first hand. It's fucking pathetic.
Dude you're conflating a bunch of stuff here. Welfare isn't the same as SNAP (food stamps) and not the same as SSDI.

SNAP doesn't have lifetime limits. You can't spend it on non-food items but some recipients misuse it and some stores allow people to buy stuff they're not supposed to.

Welfare (TANF) does have lifetime limits, assuming it's a state program that is compliant with federal TANF. Here's your state's TANF spending for 2014:

It sucks that you weren't able to work, no doubt. But all of these programs have income requirements, and you were apparently above them. The obvious rationale behind that is that if you're over a certain income amount you can afford what you need to survive.

What you are saying is exactly the problem.

Everyone is responsible for their own well being. I never asked for help until was completely out of luck and needed it. But hey, I still managed to pull through, and have managed to pull myself out and live a rather comfortable life.

Why am I held to a higher standard than those who leech off of Welfare? I don't get it. So because I never asked for help before, it's my problem that I needed it? Meanwhile others who continue to take month after month, year after year, just continue to receive funds without a second glance?
Why are you conflating legitimate welfare recipients with leeches? Is every one of them a leach but you?

The Food Stamp Program, administered by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, is proud to be distributing the greatest amount of free meals and food stamps ever.

Meanwhile, the National Park Service, administered by the U.S. Department of the Interior, asks us to “Please Do Not Feed the Animals.” The reason for the policy is because the animals will grow dependent on handouts and will not learn to take care of themselves.

      This ends today’s lesson.

Let's extrapolate a teeny, tiny bit further: The NPS knows that animals will get hooked on free food, the USDA also knows this. Coincidence?

And really Johnson's Great Society implementation can share the glorious honor of that methodology. Cloward and Piven, Hillary's playbook along with Rules for Radicals via Alinsky.

I hate it all. That a candidate must join one side or the other, that there are "sides" at all. How many good candidates were deterred from running just because their views were split between both "sides". How many were blocked out for the same reason. How many started with true ideals and sacrificed them to conform in order to "get anywhere" - how can I trust those people? This country needs a leader, something I think it's lacked for a long time. Someone to lead it nationally and internationally. Someone that people respect and look up to. I don't see that in any candidate now.

Watch some documentaries chronicling some of our great presidents and leaders long past to gain perspective on the present.

Furthermore, very few people living in this country really appreciate what they have; the poor, the middle the top. Even when people believe this country is at its worst, its still one of the best.

I completely agree. It's sad how much self hate people have. America is still a great nation. Not perfect, but still great.

I like how that went from talking about handouts and benefits/detractors to sleeve liberal/education bashing lmao.

Like any system it needs reform, and it sucks you didnt apply cause system is broken as hell for qualifying for it. You should have got addicted to crack always sunny style first, that woulda helped.

The system is beyond repair by a conservative's standards. To a liberal, it just needs to be tweaked.

You are right, let's go back to letting everyone be homeless. They just need to pull their bootstraps up one more time and take advantage of the trickle down economics at the local $1.40hr warehouse job.

Conservatives wouldn't even introduce any form of assistance. Just more tax breaks lol.

You hate these ideas till your on your ass in the street with no one to help you, I knew people talking shit about gov healthcare until their employer fucked them in the ass and they were not in perfect health.

Too many people wanting each extreme and not a middle ground. Right wanting it to be 1800s small gov again (not knowing they would be fucked) and left wanting no one to ever work again (that'll happen with robots eventually anyway lol)

Which is why they all suck. Both sides have become too entrenched.

was not "bashing" education, I was pointing out how many people cant ever see past it and take it as the gospel......

Education is a an important thing, and there is more than one way to get it, at the "university" is not the only viable means nor the only education one should have

Oh yeah. It's REALLY the poor that's dragging down this country. Not the Fortune 500 companies, not the 1%, not the people skimming this country's money into offshore bank accounts that don't do anything. I think there's a quote that kind of really addresses this statement by you, and so many other people in this thread.

Socialism never took root in America because the poor see themselves not as an exploited proletariat, but as temporarily embarrassed millionaires.
I love how we're all the poor here and we're arguing about welfare and benefits. If you have to work, you're the poor. If you have over $10m in assets, you don't have to work. I don't think anyone here is in that income strata. How does the tax breaks and corporate welfare really compare to the minor leeching of actual welfare that is actually keeping food on the tables of people who would otherwise starve and die? Exodus, I'm sorry you went through that. But you made it without it, good job. So while it would have been easier, you can't say you had no other options. I thought welfare/food stamps were there for the people that actually can't make it? The SSA's own reporting puts disability fraud at less than 1% last time I ran across a report and the SSA has a large anti fraud department. That's really not that bad imo. I don't know other agencies and the other forms of welfare, but I can't imagine that they try to actively overlook fraud.

What we're essentially arguing about is how to make our lives better and who to take the money from to do so. So we are arguing two extremes here. The people on welfare who have nothing except what's given to them every month or the people buying senators to get their companies out of paying taxes? I just don't get how anyone here is seriously arguing that.

If I ever reach the point where I'm paying $15,000 a month in income taxes, oh man, I am going to be so happy to do so.
