    Parts Car available-should I buy?

    Hey guys,

I'm new to the 325ix world. I just bought a 91 325ix sedan. It has some needs, but I haven't gone through it yet to find out how much it needs. A parts car is available nearby, and I'm wondering if it makes sense to buy it.

My car is a manual sedan, the parts car is an automatic coupe, so my question is, how much is similar (other than the tranny and lack of rear doors) between my manual sedan and an automatic coupe?

    Here's the CL ad:

    Thoughts??

    Thanks!

There are many iX specific parts. To have a spare around would be a good idea. Do you have a good direction for your build.....? Total ReStore? Restomod? DD? Rally?

the only difference in the running gear is going to be:

auto transmission vs. manual transmission ... and the obvious stull like the shifter, pedals, cooler lines to the radiator, etc.

the transfer case front case section is different ... the internals are the same

the auto car has 4.10 diffs front and back vs. 3.91's

Otherwise, everything else is exactly the same.

If the "parts" car demonstrates a working awd system (passes the jack test) and the front axle shafts and strut housings are in good condition, and the underside doesn't scare you off with massive rust holes and oil leaks, its probably worth investing in if you're planning on keeping an IX in your life for a while. The IX specific bits are getting somewhat ridiculous in price and its always good to have some spares around.

And if you decide to pick it up the car and part it out, PM me :)

        Spare ix

        Thanks for the response guys!

Just trying to make my IX into a reliable winter driver, nothing fancy.

The CL car apparently is not drivable due to brake line issues, so I am not sure if the transfer case is any good.

How do you tell if the strut housings are in good shape?

        Thanks!

Good question about the housings. Obviously pulling them off will let you know. Maybe others have a better idea. It's the threaded tips that rust out and if so you either now have a great boat anchor or send them out to be worked on by a shop that can fix them or buy new. Any alternative is very expensive.
