Front windows touch top when closing doors

Like the tittle says, does everybody's front windows touch the top when closing the doors? Or is this something due to a window mis-adjusted/bad top replacement/centering?

I always have to be careful and drop the windows a little bit before closing the doors and then raising them again, I know newer cars do that automatically but what about the E30?

My windows go up just a fraction too high when I have the hardtop on but are perfect when it's just the soft top. There's an adjustment screw on the power window regulator frame that limits upward window travel. I've never messed with it since I swap between hard and soft tops. Maybe this will help http://www.e30zone.net/e30zonewiki/i...e_Front_window

I actually close my doors by VERY gently pushing the top of the glass so it sets under the seal. When getting in I always drop the windows a bit then raise them to accomplish the same thing.

A retrofit to move the windows like on newer cars would be awesome

It is definitely a common issue. I agree a retrofit with the autodown when the door releases would be amazing.

In my case, the window is adjusted properly to align with the seals when shut, but the top does hang down past that point which results in interference when opening/closing.

          there are two adjustments guys.
there is a 5mm hex screw that is hidden by fairly hard rubber cap.

it is easiest to do this with a 5mm allen key socket and about an 8" extension. this is in the sail panel area in the rear of the to on both the drivers and passengers side.

this adjustment is used to make the top "flat" across the area where the windows touch.
it rarely needs more than a few turns in either direction.

once the top is flat, then you adjust your windows to a point where they touch the rubber seals but do not touch the top.
