Careful letting your pooch run on hot asphalt! Lesson learned the hard way.

My 4 year old companion, Orion, was having a blast chasing the monster E-maxx today at the shop. He chased it for a good 10 minutes before accepting that he had been beat and laid down in the a/c office until it was time to go home.

Fast forward, get to our home and I noticed he straggled on the walk to the house. Look back, and he is limping. Not crying, but limping.

Get inside, roll him onto his back and inspect his feet. Both front paws have a chunk of his pad peeled back and hanging. no blood, just raw underneath. 1 rear pad is the same.

Looks like the best plan for this is to have him take it easy for a few days while they heal. Not a hard thing to do since he goes to work with me every day. I'll just lock him in the office and he'll happily sleep on the couch all day.

Just thought I could save someone else the trouble of having this happen.

Mandatory pic of pup, with my wife. (Stolen from her photobucket, and this was the first one that popped up with him in it.)

Shouldn't be on asphalt at all IMO, especially hot.

Dang that sucks to hear! Good to know though! My pit is always in my backyard anyways so she never really gets on the asphalt much.

Wife and I just soaked the 3 affected paws in an epsom salt-water solution. Best bet I have read to prevent infection without causing pain.

I tried hydrogen peroxide earlier.... He did NOT like that at all.

My dog runs on asphalt all the time for his daily exercise.

I have only had one instance in which he hurt his front drivers side paw.

He recovered within 3ish days, licked it often, and was jolly most of the time.

I do agree though, hydrogen peroxide was not his friend. At all.

                        Here's to a speedy recovery!
