I use an old iron i bought from a dutch site which is similar to craiglist for €5, the really old ones don't have holes in them so it's perfect for waxing snowboards

I found the regular iron's holes in the bottom make it so it doesn't push the liquid as easily, so you've got spots where it pushes and others where it doesn't. A snowboard iron is a lot more predictable.

That's good to know. I had always had the shop wax mine as well, so I was just going off of what I had read -- the DIY I read said that I'd have much more success with a waxing-specific iron.

I actually went out and bought a scraper and wax Wednesday night to give it a shot as we went to the mountain today. Between my room mates and I, we had three irons and I didn't see a waxing iron anywhere in town, so we went ahead and used our shittiest clothing iron. It seemed to work pretty well, but I just ran in to an issue with not being able to turn the iron to a low enough heat. It seemed as though I was vaporizing the wax when I went to flatten/spread it. I think that that probably has more to do with the shit quality iron than the fact that it is for clothes. And it ended up working out just fine anyways. So I certainly wouldn't bother going out and buying an iron for waxing.

Speaking of going to the mountain yesterday...

My room mate and I ended up taking the day off of work to go up to Stevens pass today. On the second run of the day we went to the terrain park. I was feeling pretty good and wanted to go bigger than I normally would because I had a GoPro on my head. All was well initially, but the jumps get progressively larger as you go down the park and you obviously gain pretty good speed. On the second to last jump I landed switch and I have basically zero confidence hitting jumps goofy.

For the last jump with my right foot forward, I went way too hard, got off balance right off the bat and came down pretty hard on my left shoulder and whipped my head in to the ground. I popped my shoulder out (it comes out pretty easily from an old rugby injury) and knocked myself out cold. My room mate was behind me and couldn't see the back of the jump... so he hit it and saw me laying there while he was in mid-air. It spooked him and caused him to over rotate (so he says... he probably would have crashed if I weren't there). He put his hand down and broke two metacarpals in his left hand.

So we basically got 1.5 runs in yesterday morning before we had to leave for the ER. They at least gave us each a free day pass since we had already used one day from our 8-day powder passes.

I am sore as fuck this morning. I'm lucky I don't have to do any manual labor at my job or I would be screwed today.

A bunch of spur of the moment purchases has left my credit card in some serious pain.

Hard to get a picture of, but I registered for a 3 day training session with my local sports car club in March. 1 day in class, 2 days on the track with instructor practicing driving techniques, race lines, handling etc. I will qualify for a novice race license after completion valid in many NA race organizations.

Also grabbed some wind blockers for my hands and neck to finish off my entire set of gear. This is gonna be a great year for riding!

I bought a dji Phantom to carry my GoPro.

Here's a video I shot with it at the cottage last weekend.
