When I did my caster/camber kit I pulled the subframe out this way and going back in I realized I should have done it the way you just said....

Also the Ebrake cables are easily disconnected right at the brakes, sometimes if its not too rusty in there you can simply push a screwdriver into one of the lugbolt holes and pop the cable end loose.
Why disconnect brake lines and then have to bleed it later? just unbolt calipers from TA's and wire tie them to something

While the subframe is out, it's nice to replace the inner brake softlines and the e-brake cables, if they are disintegrating, or if the outer jacket is bulging and are on borrowed time. Some cables are really stubborn, but better to get a ton of rust flakes in your eyes once, rather than twice.

But, if you're paying for labor at a shop, sometimes it's best to let sleeping dogs lie.

What the hell was that about the first cam not sitting correctly?

Well first off I was going stainless anyways.
And secondly on the cam's apparently all recent batches of Schrick's 256/264 cam were bad intake cams. The casting put one of the cam lobes too close to the bearing so the side of the lobe was scraping the bearing cap as you can see in the pic. I eventually found an older casting of the same cam which worked fine.

How many miles do you have on the supertech valves springs, are they titanium retainers?

At this point, I've probably put about 8k miles on the motor. Including 3 track days and a handful of auto-crosses. Yes Ti retainers.

Are you comfortable disclosing the amount you paid for the machine work on the engine? I want to have the whole engine blasted/cleaned out like brand new, but I want to know the cost. Your's looks so tasty. I'd eat off of it. :d

Can't remember, I have all the receipts at home. If you'd like I will PM you how much the machine work was.
As for who's responsible for the engine porn, Give R&L engines in NH a call. They do a lot of builds for Turner Motorsport as well as many other BMW race teams, Nascars, top fuel dragsters etc. They are working there magic with my roomates S52 as we speak.
And of course none of it would have went together o smoothly without Fidhle007! <3

My cost for machine work was more then just a cleaning. They bored the block, cleaned and magnafluxed the block and head. Oversized valves in the head with all new springs, retainers, guides, etc. 5 angle valve grind, decked the head and block for an MLS gasket, & balanced the whole rotating assembly. My roomates S52 is getting more of a bare bones "refresh". Pressure/vacum check, clean and deck the head, and only replacing things that are absolutely necessary. We probably wont even bring them the block.

                    Back from the dead...

                    Update!

Best word to sum up the current setup of the car is REDICULOUS!

Motor is currently producing about 320HP at the crank. I'm running a 1:14.7 at NHMS w/ south oval and street tires. (the limiting factor here being my driving experience)
With that being said, i'm passing a couple +600HP Corvettes out there soooooo....

Not to mention, some other more powerfully swapped E30's ;)

Right on, man! I'm about to build the bottom end on my S52 donor and your thread is inspiring. Still trying to locate a GOOD machine shop for the block work down here in Hampton Roads. Seems like most of the good ones on the east coast are up north
