Differential ring gear contact pattern guidance

    Hi everyone,

I was wondering if some diff experts could cast an eye over my recent diff build and tell me what they think.

I personally being the OCD type of hobby mechanic would like to see that pattern a little more towards the root of the tooth and leave more of a space between the pattern and the tip of the tooth.

Look forward to some expert advice.

You certainly used thick enough grease for the pattern check!

I've done half a dozen small- case diffs and they survive just fine
when they show that pattern. I agree, moving the pinion into the
ring gear just a little might be an improvement in strength, but it's not bad.

Not even an expert on the internet,

I used baby butt cream as not a single store near me had engineering blue marking dye.

I think I will leave it be.

      Thank you.

Well, it probably won't get a rash, at the least...

That actually shows up WAY better in photos on the internet than contact patterns usually do.

Yea its decent. I went to a gearbox specialist and asked them to sell/give me some prussian blue marking ink but they gave me so little. I mean it was somewhere around the size of a grain of barley. So I mixed it up with some baby's butt cream. lol ;D
