Press tool recommendation for TA and subframe bushing removal

    Hello everyone,

About to drop rear end and replace rtabs and subframe bushings. Anyone have recommendation for press/tool to remove bushings without it being pita ?

If anyone has press/tool for rent that would be great too?

    Thanks in advance!

For the RTA bushings, you can get a long threaded rod, 5 nuts, and some washers and make your own puller. For the subframe, burn out the middle and sawzall out the remaining metal ring.

Check this out for the trailing arm bushings:

I've done this twice now with good results, both for removal and installation.

For the subframe, if you're dropping the rear end, I'd try heating the housing for the subframe bushings (don't overdo it) then try hammering or pressing them out in a similar fashion to the above. If you need to, you can use a sawzall and cut into the bushings if you can hammer out the center metal. Just go easy when you get close to the outside edge, don't damage the housing itself.

Use a metal brush, either manually or on a drill to clean the inside of the housing. Do similar with the RTABs as well.

If you're doing with OEM rubber subframe bushings, a bit of soapy water and a mallet will get them in very quickly.

I sawzawed through the metal on the stock sub bushing and then fit a flathead screwdriver in between the subframe and bushing and beat the bushing out. This was way easier and less of a mess than burning them out. For the rtabs go to advanced auto and rent their ball joint tool sawzaw the outside end of the bushing off and then use that tool to push the bushing out. The ball joint tool made the rtabs a complete piece of cake.

For the subframe bushings, another method is to hacksaw off the flange on opposite sides of the bushing so you can get a 2 jaw puller on the subframe. Then tighten up the puller and apply heat to the bushing and subframe with a heat gun until the bushing starts moving. Drinking beer while you apply heat makes it go perceptibly faster.

i purchased the press kit and got it out and new bushings in no problem. for rtabs i used 3/8 rod, 5 nuts couple washer method, worked great.

the press tool kit made the job so much easier.
