Meet Anne My 1987 Cirrusblau 325e

Well I think its time to finally Officially introduce myself after owning my E30 for the past 3+ years and being a daily lurker of this forum.

For the Longest time I was afraid to post my car up. I really thought that not many people would appreciate a stock E30 especially with the hate the 325e gets. But I love this Car so much. It runs great and I figured someone has to appreciate a well taken care of car that has not been destroyed by mods. But rather carefully and methodically maintained. I don't have pictures of everything just the Important stuff. I am one of those car guys that fixes a problem before it arrives and I regularly check my car to make sure its in good shape. I am making an effort to document everything from now on.

    Where My E30 is Currently.

    Interior
    385MM M-Tech One Wheel
Euro Clock hooked up with plug and play KIRIEIW adapter
Stock Radio with AUX input added
Fully Refurbished cluster From Bavarian Restoration with "Eta Alpina stripe added"
    Stock Pacific Blue interior
Matt-B M-tech shift and Ebrake boot
    Black carpets from ECS

    Exterior
Euro Grills and Euro Plate Filler
    Front License plate filler
Respray of Hood, Front fenders and Roof in Factory Cirrusblau
    Hand refinished 14in BasketWeaves

    Suspension
    Garagistic Front Strut Bar
    Stock Everything Else.

I am proud to say that the first Car I ever drove was my fathers 1995 525i. Needless to say driving a BMW set my bar high and I fell in love with my fathers 5 series. I loved the round headlights and square shape. Around the same time a good friend of mine in high school purchased a 1984 318i I was in love! It was like a small nimble version of the E34 I loved so much. I HAD TO have one. I continued to drive my fathers BMW and I thought I was the coolest kid in school. I then was foolish and crashed it during a snow storm the following winter, I was devastated. However much I begged my father to help me get a BMW he wanted me to own a car that I could learn to drive well with and not worry if I crashed it again. So I got a 2003 Jetta with a five speed. I hated it, it was obvious that whoever owned it before us had just trashed it out and it had been neglected. I am glad however to have leaned to drive stick on a car i did not care about. I owned the Jetta for about a year. After I crashed that one (not my fault). I was given the option of purchasing a new car. I took out a personal loan for 5k and began looking for E30's. All this time my I had been helping my buddy build up his E30 we had put a new suspension, wheels and some light engine mods to bring out that M10 power. I wad determined to have an E30

I decided that I wanted an Early model since I loved the look of the "diving boards". After all my first experience with an E30 was an early model. I had my heart set on a 325es. I just loved the look the sweet "cow catcher" front valance the Wheels and the sport interior. However it was becoming difficult to find one in the right condition. I had 5k to spend and at the time 5k could but you an immaculate E30. I looked at a convertible (it was crap) and some other stuff came up in my area. Then this little 325e popped up about three hours away in Muncie, IN. It was advertised as "rust free 325e with records and everything working" for $3000 and the seller wanted it to go to an enthusiast. It was Blue with a Blue interior at the time I thought that had to be the ugliest thing ever (boy was I wrong). I had a good feeling about the car. I offered him $3100 to hold it for me. The next day my dad and drove the car and it ran great. I bought it on the spot and drove it 3 hours home to Louisville.

Here she is about 5 mins after I got home

Here is a Picture of the interior I took a few weeks later. God hated the way that radio looked

Clearly I had some work on my hands. Since I had money left over from my purchase my thought was to immediately have the car painted and go from there. This was back In 2014 and at the time I was in school. I decided to just drive the car and enjoy it. It had a "patina" to it that I liked, and it ran great. Plus having extra money for repairs never hurts.

It did not take me long before I got to work

I purchased a new shift and E-brake boot and 385mm M-tech one wheel I also got rid of that hideous Radio and just rocked a "Radio Delete Panel for a While. Added a Euro clock and adapter from a great guy here KIRIEIW. I am 6'3 so that hustco arm rest had to go. it was driving me insane.

Bought a Set of these and they sat for a bit. E30 stayed the same for a while.

Summer/fall of 2014 was a good few months for the E30 as a spend a lot of time and money getting the things I wanted done with Her.

How she looked at the start of the summer

Started out by Refinishing the Weaves by hand. This took FOREVER like a good two weeks hand sanding them and filling in the cracks with wheel repair kit i bought. I think the results speak for themselves.

Around this time I also had my cluster fixed. The Odomother gears didnt work and that bothered me. There Is a whole story with this one I first took it to a local place. Afterwords My odometer didnt work (after they claimed they fixed it). Then I sent it to Greg a Bavarian Restoration and had him fully refinish it. He also added a "Alpine Stripe" Which I love.

Pulling it out I injured myself.

Around this Time I also Installed Euro Plate Filler and had a Ireland Engineering Exhaust Installed. They made a "y" fitting to make it work with the 325e exhaust. I think all E30's should have dual tip mufflers looks amazing.

Then Paint. I found a local place that would do a "Partial Respray" of my Car for $1500. I had heard good things about them and the quality of the paint was really bugging me. Unfortunately/fortunately a few days before the car got painted my dad backing into it while it was in the driveway. Thankfully the body shop fixed it for no extra charge.

Here she is in all of her glory before paint.

          After
Not going to lie I cried when I picked it up. I personally thanked everyone that worked so hard on my car. They all said how much they liked it and how it was nice to "bring it back to life".

Then I went to the Vintage. The Vintage pretty much destroyed all other car shows for me. After that nothing could hold up. I had an amazing time and my father tagged along. We bonded and took the long way to get to the event which ended up taking us 45 mins through some of the most amazing back-roads I have ever been on.

Rv3 member Reichart12 grabbed this of me on my way in this is by far my fav photo of my E30 PERIOD

That pretty much brings us up to today.

Im not trying to go nuts with this thing its my daily I fell in love with it stock and I intend to keep it that way. In the future I do play on a major suspension overhaul but thats really about it.

Had an "E30 Day" I washed the car changed the oil, spark plugs, and new passenger window regulator. I also took the opportunity to fix the peeling vinyl from the door card some contact cement and binder clips did the trick.

Took out my steering wheel to have it refinished by "Stitched" Rocking the 4-spoke for a few weeks. As you can tell it was ruff. He is putting on fresh leather and "Tri-Colored" stitching. I am very excited to have it back.

I then took my radio out and sent it to a place i stumbled on while trying to find a aftermarket radio solution for my E30. I really like the stock look and the orange lights of the E30 Interior. For the last 2 years I have been using a Bluetooth speaker in my back seat and I hate it. I found a place that for $60 will "drill" a aux input into your stock radio. I was VERY skeptical but I really liked the idea so I said FUCK IT. I sent my radio off and two weeks later I was greeted with this in the mail worth every cent. Im so happy I caint even tell you.

So here is how it works when nothing is plugged in its a normal radio. However put the AUX cable in and BAM your jamming to tunes in high quality. 11/10 would recommend for the "purists" out there like myself.

Congratulations on your purchase, and I really admire the way in which you are bringing it back to life. The car looks great! What areas did they not respray? I know they had to respray the roof, so I am guessing they did a 'burn in' on the clear coat somewhere on the C pillar as it looks like the rear right quarter panel wasn't repainted.

                  Keep up the excellent work!

Looks like you're taking good care of it, I would have been skeptical of the "partial respray" as well, but it sure seems like it turned out great.

Also, if you find another defroster with a clean logo on the front those switches are simple enough to take apart and rebuild. Swapping a fresh button cover would be easy.

                    Keep it up!

You are totally right they "blended" the paint from the roof down the c pillar to the rear quarter. If I am totally honest in the right light its noticeable but it improved the look of the car so much i do not mind. At some point I will be doing a proper respray but it really does look good right now.

Gorgeous - it looks like they did a very nice job respraying the car & blending it.

I love the time invested in refinishing the weaves - a job well done!

That stock radio does look right at home, seems like a nice restomod.
