Car won't start (details in thread) ... Any ideas?

car is a 1991 325i with an m50 stroker swap.

Drove to work in my e30, everything worked normal as usual. 6 hours later when I go to leave work, I wasn't getting fuel to the fuel rail. Determined the fuel pump was bad, trailered it home, and I just now fitted a working pump. I am now getting sufficient fuel. My battery drained all the way dead sitting in my dads shop when I brought it home fyi. Now that I replaced the pump , I put a jump box on the battery expecting it to start, and it still just cranks and cranks and cranks over. It is getting fuel to the rail, so what else could it be considering the information at hand? Thx in advance

      1. How did you determine fuel pump was bad?
      2. How do you know you are getting fuel to the rail now?
      3. Have you checked for spark?

how does it sound when its cranking? Does it crank easy? Pop off the oil cap and crank it by hand to be sure the T-belt didnt snap

I'm the first one to admit I don't know squat about the M50 and how its ECU interfaces with the fuel pump - but as others have said, check for spark and cam rotation.

The only other thing that pops into my mind would be the fusible link to the ECU, located in the trunk. Sometimes the use of a jump box or booster cables will kill it - thereby killing power to the ECU.

So i am now getting fuel with sufficient pressure. I have spark. I have compression. The m50tu uses a timing chain btw. Cranks over easy but will not fire.
My ECU is very hot after trying to start the car. I am wondering if it is fried for whatever reason (I have jumped the car many times) ? I am hoping to test it with another ecu soon.

Is fuel getting injected or is it just getting to the rail?
Check your injector ground at the front of the head? (it's on the thermostat housing on my m50nv)

Tested the new ECU ... Car still won't start. Gets fuel , spark , compression , good ecu. What else could it be....any sensors or fuses or anything stupid that cause it to not start? Checked injector ground and it's fine...I'm at a complete loss here.
