    "New Muffler" put on today

I have an audition later in Baltimore so I didn't want to spend to much time on the car and tire myself out. I had basically been running straight pipes for the past couple months because the old muffler had rotted out, it was really loud and really bad. anyways, I pulled the stock exhaust system from the parts car and ordered replacement muffler install gear from BavAuto (TischerBMW is taking forever with my other order). After a 2.5 hour battle everything finally lined up and worked out, the car is quiet finally!!!

Previous, decrepit exhaust hanging on for dear life:

The struggle to separate the rusted cat from the muffler finally ended:

Busted up Catalytic converter (heat shield is screwed but the cat itself seems ok:

Thank God for a great Mechanic shop who let me use their lift, tools and even helped me out quite a bit along the way!

Back at home, Quiet as can be (can't wait for a SuperSprint or Stromung)

The great thing is while the car was on the lift I got to really inspect the underbody, looks like all new coolant and Power steering hoses! To my shock the driver side part of the rear sway bar had popped out of the end link! Knocked it back into place, looks like I should be ordering new end links and sways bars when I do my suspension.

Overall it was a good day. I'll get back to parting out the iS in the garage tomorrow. Now I'm gonna get dressed and head out to Baltimore for my Opera North audition.

Got a little bit of work done today on the parts car, it was snowing out so all I was able to with my car was replace the rear brakes. I bought an angle grinder and some new tools from Home Depot to help disassemble the parts car. Pulled the front fenders and got about halfway through the dash. gonna finally ship out a bunch of orders tomorrow!

          hey looks very nice.

We have to get together sometimes, after next week I should have some free time and hopefully it warms up enough.

Did you get that engine out of the parts car yet?

Haven't had very much time to work on the parts car so the engine is still in there. I'm thinking of putting the car on a couple cinder blocks and to start pulling the suspension. Maybe build a custom "box" to drop the engine on and put some rolling casters on it.

We definitely need to get together once it warms up (6" of snow today! what happened to 50 degrees last week?) The next step I want to take is to finally pull the wheels and suspension and get that going. I think the parts car may have some billys on it!!

yea no kidding where is the 50 degree weather. I'm so done with this winter bs. I'm also tire of paying for the heating bills. I can deal without AC, but not heat. Two things

1.) do your suspension with one other person. Its good practice for us DIYers.
2.) you can just get it out with two people if you have the head off , and strap under the engine. Esp since its a parts car, you can cut the front support, then just have two people carry it out forward, since you dont have a hoist.

I know this winter crap is really starting to get to me. I would really like to get this parts car stripped moving along cuz I need to get rid of the shell before I can start really working on my car. there's almost no garage space with just enough room to move around and pull parts. The heaters I have in the garage work really well and it's sealed enough that after an hour I have no need for a sweatshirt so if you have any free time on a saturday or sunday let me know.

Same here. Was in the garage last night and had the torpedo heater pointed at me the whole time. Barely kept me warm.

I scheduled the tear down on my parts car for the 15th. I'm hoping for 40+ degrees.

you boys need to get yourself a blast furnace. your garage can be 80 degrees in less than 30 min and stay that hot. I use about a gallon of kerosene per every 4 hours. On a 20 degree day. Which is like 3 bucks?

Ya know I tried getting that one you sent me a CL link for a while back but the guy had already sold it. the $15 heaters I have actually work really well though.

Haven't really had time to work on the car and have already overspent my budget for the moment so I'm working on a few websites so that I can make some more money for the car and still be able to cover the rent/gf. But I did take some time to start thinking about the audio system I want to put in, I'm a big audiophile and used to do custom installs for a long while. so this is what I'm thinking:

Sticking with a completely Alpine system....
                        1. IDA-X300 Digital Media Receiver
                        2. Type R 5.25" Component Speakers up front
                        3. Type R 6.5" Components in the Rear (Already there)
                        4. Type R 10" Subwoofer
                        5. Custom Sub Box similar to StereoInstaller1's current boxes
                        6. 30GB 2.5" HDD for music
                        7. Custom Ipod Mount to replace OBC (I don't use mine)
                        8. Custom Fiberglass enclosure for rear deck (painted either Alpinweiss or gloss black)

I think overall it be a great sounding system.

how do you intend on mounting the side skirts?

I ahve a pair, but I havent mount it yet, due to the fact taht it will be diffficult to mount them the way factory does it, by drilling holes on the rocker.

I was planning on drilling the rocker panels, it's gonna be a bitch but I picked up Rigid drill bits specifically for metal to make it easier to drill the rockers. the most difficult part will be lining everything up.

absolutely, lining it up is the bitch part. You'll know waht I mean when you get to it. I tried it twice, and although I would say I'm about 2mm standard error on teh holes. I was still iffy about doing it.

I did the rear trunk lid for the is wing, with the installation manual measurement from the forum, and it turn out A+. I drill the holes perfectly and not 1mm off. But I measured it about 5 times before drilling. The rockers are on the edge and there is no template I'm aware of, and when you put the clips on, you'll know exactly what I'mtalking about... its pretty impossible to be perfectly correct without a factory spec measurement.

if you figure otu something I didnt, please let me know, casue need to mount those is skirts thats sitting in my storage... for say a year now?
