I swapped to the S50 a few years ago and I love the power but I want more. I am just wondering if anyone has experience going from a tuned S50 ( ltw flywheel 24lb injectors 3.5 Maf headers and TMS software port and polish) to an M60 or M62. I am just curious to find out if the power difference or the weight difference is really worth the trouble. I know I am asking in the right please ... Any advice is appreciated.

Well, you said m60b44... that's the unofficial name for the hybrid engine, that's still somewhat unknown territory as far as HP figures. Unless you meant m60b40 or m62b44.
I can walk away from my buddies OBD-I s52 e30 on the highway in my m60b40 e30. It's not a crazy difference though, maybe not worth the extra work/time/money if all you care about is highway acceleration.
But the low end torque from an m60 in an e30 is ridiculous. I can pull out in 2nd gear no problem, shift right to 5th, without bogging or hesitation. It completely transforms the car, makes it 10x more fun to drive then a 24v e30. You can nail it at 3k and pull as hard as an s52 does at 6k. It doesn't matter what part of the power band you're in, it makes good power from idle to redline. And then there's the sound...
It's worth it, if you want to have fun driving the car, not just have peak HP for highway pulls. If you want that, slap a turbo on it and call it a day.
Camera car is the s52 e30, brown car is my m60 e30. We had a fair start, camera man was just a bit slow to hit record.

I am shooting for a hybrid as it appears there is MarkD tuning for the setup now. I do auto-X my car so more usefull hp all over the powerband would be nice. Right now the car is just a little faster than a stock E46 M3 (party because it weighs 2600lbs) and I want to make it faster but keep the power useable.I reall like the idea of losing weight over the nose with the M60 even if the six speed is heavier than my current 5 speed at least that weight is in the middle.
I was going the turbo route but in the end I just dont like F.I because of the cost involved. I am planning on putting my M60B44 swap together and then just selling my current swap with everything included (engine, tranny, castro airbox, transmission crossmember, headers tuning and wiring harness as a package) this should ofset the cost of my M60b44 swap and maybe even let me start saving towards a little sueprcharger for the M60.1989 332IS -S-Fiddy Four-Some weight removed.
5 lug E36 M3 Brakes Coilovers and LTW's and No ABS.

I'm almost done with my M62 swap and it has been really expensive.. If you can find a good deal on a 97 540 with a 6 speed and can do all of your own fab work, it won't be too bad. I'm not too familiar with how the 24v motors sit in there, but you need to modify the tranny crossmember, get motor mounts, subframe spacers, and a modified drive shaft. Also the headers from a late model m62 fit better than the headers it comes with. It's just a lot of fab work and wiring too of you're gonna go OBD 2.
