Top up or Down for one a week garage e30

So I garage my E30, and only drive with top down, should I just fold carefully and leave down or put up? Latched or unlatched?

I would occasionally keep the top up and latched to keep the material from shrinking too much (at least in theory). And as I'm sure you know only stow the top when it is absolutely dry.

I don't drive it much, but I left it in my garage top down for the whole summer. It was ok when I closed it near summer's end. But Bearmw has the right idea

in NC I had my hard top on for months at a time obviously with the top down. As long as it's bone dry and well folded it should be fine. Not a bad idea to clean it as well.

She never sees rain, and at home and at work she is covered. Since I live in South Florida, not sure shrinking is as big an issue.

Do you all use a towel or other material on the plastic window when folded?

Same. When I bought my car the PO referred to this as the "special towel". It was quickly replaced.

Storing the car with the top down isn't a big deal, I leave my car with the top down for weeks on end.

I got a new top last year so I'm kind of anal about this. Here's my procedure ...

I put a soft towel over the top of the rear seat before I start folding the top to protect the inner surface of the rear window from getting scratching against the plastic at the back of the seat.

As the top goes down, I use one of these to keep the window from creasing. http://www.ebay.com/itm/1956-1993-Co...RUgMpV&vxp=mtr

Once the top is folded all the way down into the stowage compartment, I cover it with the portion of the towel that's still over the rear seat and close the lid.

As mentioned above - the top and the stowage compartment must be clean and dry for long term top stowage.

That link just brought up small glass fuses. Certainly that isn't what you meant.

@mjposner - the pillow is very soft and compresses easily. I like to think that using the pillow instead of a towel does a better job preventing creases. So far, so good on mine.

Thanks! I'll have to pick one of those up.

Ive never found creases to be a problem. The towel I use is (in my mind) to prevent the 2 faces of the window from rubbing and getting scratched.
